Help - what's the trick?!

I’m trying to change the reverse light bulb. To do this I need to take the silly little grill in front of it off but the screws just keep turning and not coming out.

I can’t even work out how I can easily get to the other side of the bodywork the screw goes in to so I can investigate. It’s the same for the fog light grill, the screws just turn!

All advice appreciated (other than buy an S2).

you can just about reach the other side of the fastener if you take off the rear wheels and diffuser.

Yeah drop the diffuser and get some mole grips on the little bugger.

Or you could cut the head off the screw.

What ever way you do it fit new ones, changed mine 2 years ago and havent had a problem since.

What did you change them for - just more of the same or something less prone to seize?

I used the same. Bought a box of 50 from somewhere on the net.
I will try and find the web site as they are alot cheaper than getting them from Lotus etc.

Steve i think this is where i got mine from.

There normaly about 2.50 ish for 4.

Thanks for the link - I know they are M5 but who knows the length - 15mm or 25mm?

I got the 15mm ones, they have done the front and rear grills. Not changed any others around the car yet so dont know if you will need any longer ones.

Brilliant, cheers chaps!

I was worried it was going to be more troublesome than that.

Put some copper-slip on all screws, then they always unscrew ok in the future.

thanks will order some…they seem a very good price

what he said!

Almost used the first and only tin of copper slip I bought when I was 18 (I’m 39 this month!!!)

I changed mine for the plastic thingies used to keep the wheelarch liners in place…no more corrosion and no loosening probs either. Halfords had the size.

Removing the old ones was a B***er finally cut the heads off wtith heavy cutters.
PS anybody know where I can get some bigger Plastic fittings?

it’s worth using as short a bolt as you can get away with as well - one that only just reaches the threaded part of the fastener, and then pulls it in, that way there’s less protruding out the inside that can corrode amd make removing them difficult.

I’ve been using tie wraps (2 joined together to make them long enough) with a bit of care you can feed them in one hole and out t’other. an odd option but a piece of piss to remove!
