Help what is this worrying noise

Knocking noise when turning right …and a bit during straight line running.
Knock is exagerated by the camera mount .
It is speed related so not Engine and car was checked over by the Edwards who found no obvious probs with wheel bearings etc.
It does not appear to be brakes
SO any suggestions…

Help

Hmm it almost seems like a rubbing noise rather than a knock… sorta like a rub rub rub rub, almost like tyre treads catching something.

I suppose you’ve checked all of your tyres and sidewalls?. You’ve also checked that the trigger wheels on the rear outer CVs haven’t moved and are rubbing on something?

Any idea whether it’s coming from front or rear? I’d imagine a noise that loud would cause significant steering vibration if on the front?

Keep us posted.

Brake pads?

My first thoughts were simple ‘pad lift’ but that would be a ‘knock’ rather than a ‘rub’

Might be worth checking the wires that run to the wheel sensors - I had one rubbing on the tyre earlier this year.
Alex

Have you checked over all suspension pick up points for any play inc arb droplinks?

I’m experiencing a speed-related knock which is cured when I touch the brakes.Suspecting pad knck back or someting. Only happens after I’ve been on road for a few miles.

Wheel Weight rubbing

Handbrake cable rubbing

Wheel arch liner come loose somewhere

Thommo, that’s definitely pad lift, I’d say. Sticky pads on the back of the pad are the usual cure - available from on-line shops.

Thanks guys for the suggestions…
Most of the obvious ones have been eliminated…but a CV joint could be a suspect even though there is no obvious visible prob. Will also look again at the wheel arch liners but it sounds a bit too metallic for that.
Brake pads no… as it still does it if I apply brakes in a corner (Not totally advisable at full chat going through Paddock!)

O/S tripod joint next to gearbox?

Try jacking up each rear wheel (one at a time), start up and run in 2nd gear - is the noise there?

Hi Simon…Just tried that but no conclusions due to all the other noises going on.
Its booked in to Martin for a complete joint rebuild/replacement so lets hope that helps…cheers.

HI Clive!

Bloody hell… no car now and about 2 zillion posts since I last looked!

I bet your problem is a wheel bearing!

I had the exact same noise at Anglesey… it was the Front Wheel bearing that the Edwards Boyz did a grand job of replacing.

There was no end float or play, and it turned silently when jacked up… only when pressed out was it shagged!

Mmmm reading the above that sound quite ‘dirty’ eh!!!

Anyway. hope you sort it!

Pete.

All sorted by the wonderful Martin and Steve …NS rear wheel bearing knackered…Ns tripod and cv joints very worn, os CV worn… :astonished:
Cant wait to get it out on track for a meaningful test…
Thanks guys for a superb job…

Excellent news, Clive :sunglasses:

Right then - Donny on the 27th August!!!
