Help! themostat replacement disc:

i am halfway through fitting the remote themostat kit but i cannot get a replacement disc for the original thermostat. if i chop the original stat, how big does the hole have to be? can i just remove the cage and spring and plunger, and leave the normal hole without enlarging it any more? or do i need to file it outwards to make for easier flow?

oh and by the way my 190 motorsport kitted car was only ever fitted with a 88 deg themostat, so it was never running hot anyway… there’s me worrying about every degree over 82.

cheers. mitch

the Rover replacement is no more than a normal thermostat with the core removed.
If you like, you can hacksaw the “I” shaped bit in the middle to improve flow, but even this is not necessary.

great news!! i really didnt want to start snippin and grinding on that disc for too long.

thank you.

Mitch, mine also had the 88 when it should have been 82. The guy’s at the dealership’s don’t seem to care about anything else than their bonus!!! Pully not set up, thermostat not changed…what a rip off.

Boycee,

Don’t forget CCC on the weekend (i do not wanna say what it stands for coz it will only confirm the S1 boys suspicions about us in the S2 gang )…i wanna get me seat out and work out how to fit it lower and more reclined

You don’t need to put in a replacement disc, just take the thermostat off and close the housing with the rubber bit in (and cover it lightly with grease).

It doesn’t leak.

even better! thanks uldis. the only advise better than that would be a story about how it is possible to tickle the thermostat out of the housing like a trout saving getting the spanners out at all.

fluffy, i too am fairly dissapointed about the 190 deal. i am sure my pulleys are not right in my car. my lada niva has almost as much midrange.

bru_larh, if i get my car back together by then i will for sure come down to CCC, i need to flush the cooling system out anyway. and i have a bit more cutting to do…

went for an initial test drive last night with my lovely new remote thermostat. what a pleasure to see a nice steady 80 deg on the display.

thanks for all the great advise chaps.
