Help pleased - Starter motor dead

I have a 2001 S1 Exige, Aircon model with Aircon removed, and immobiliser fitted, but engine otherwise standard (190 upgrade). I used the car on Monday evening and everything was fine when I parked the car up. I tried to start it this evening and the ignition lights came on, the fuel pump pressurised and stopped whirring, I pressed the immobiliser button the key and the red light by the gear lever came on, but when I turn the key to operate the starter and nothing happens - no click of the relay, or noise from the starter. The red light from the immobiliser goes out when I operate the key to the starter position

I checked the fuses in the cabin rear bulkhead and Fuse 2 - 3 Amp “Engine Management, OBD2” had failed (did not appear to have blown, just fallen apart). I changed the fuse but it made no difference. The battery is in good condition and fully charged. I’ve checked the inertia cutout switch and that is OK.

Any suggestions as to where to look next to try to fix the problem?

imobiliser

I’d just reached the same conclusion. Is there any way to reset it? I’ve just been out and armed the alarm, left it till it settled into flashing once a second, them disarmed it and it returns to flashing about once every three seconds. Pressing the button on the key the light comes on continually and then goes out, so it looks like its working as you’d expect, but it obviously isn’t mobilising the ignition.

I had this on mine.

You can bypass the immobiliser with the wiring diagram and plenty of time, as you need to take the seats out, and the bulkhead plastic panel off. Then take the immob out of the loop. Also the immob is matched with the alarm and keys, so you have to replace all of it. It’s about 3-400 quid I reckon.

Easy job, but time consuming, as all the alarm parts are obviously difficult to get at.

Thanks - I know what to do next. I’ll have a look at the weekend. Sounds like more money…
