Help please, been to view an exige.....

I think the problem is knowing what someone else paid for something.

Ultimately, if you wanted to build that car, you would be looking at spending a lot more than that asking price.

I would say it’s worth 26-27k all day long.

Is it basically an Elise with a lot of work done - yes, but to be honest, that doesn’t mean a lot to me… is it going to outperform a lot of cars costing a lot more… absolutely… and in that respect surely it’s a bargain?

Yeah I guess, but we all know that bit shouldn’t matter.

yeah doesn’t stop the housing market

If I hadn’t known what he paid for it, I would probably have it by now, I k ow this shouldn’t matter, it’s irrelevant really. It just sits heavy with me.

It was in good nick, not many marks on it. Last owner said it needed new pads and discs when he sold it, they haven’t been changed in the current owners ownership. They are standard set up. So Id probably want to chuck a seriously lotus bigger brake set up on it…

But, it’s a weapon and a good looking weapon at that, and still for sale…

Heart says this, head says factory 240/260…ha ha ha, oh well, not a bad situation to be in I suppose…

Yes indeed, a very first world problem to have

Performance wise, a 240/260 is close to an NA Honda.

Similar issue when I bought my M5. I came within an inch of buying it but did not move quick enough and a specialist dealer scooped it up. They gave it a polish and put a massive premium on it.

Trouble is I’d decided it was the car for me and ended up taking it on the chin. I don’t really regret it as I’m smitten with the car. Ultimately it was still worth it to me even with the premium. At the time head said it was a ridiculous deal but heart won.

If I faced your dilemma I’d take the Honda car any day of the week…

Fully agree Tim, my S2 135r Honda went for around 17k.

Fully agree, nothing else Lotus offer comes close to the performance of that car (SC/CC Honda).

Current V6 and older 260 are simliar performance of an NA Honda.

You just can’t beat the laws of physics and the light weight of a Honda converted K series certainly is noticeably when on track.

What else can you get with 360bhp AND 800kg?

£27k is about the right money for that car.

Pull out on the track, slip it into 2nd, short shift into 3rd, cruise round the first corner and open it out in third… Boom it’s off, and always widens your eyes.

I’d take the Honda car too. Little niggles aside it is a great conversion. Plus its not like the standard 240/260 cars don’t have their issues. Gearbox anyone.

Yep Honda conversion for me as well if I was buying now, to get a real S2 Exige to that performance level you would need to add at least £15k if not £20k to the purchase price, I know…

Id best put a revised offer in then.

I must like it I keep going back to view the pictures…

Is the honda unit fairly reliable, it will see track every now and again, but not a great deal. Luckily the garage I use, he looks after about 5 Hondas so is clued up on them…

It can’t have as many niggles as the Evo 9 ive just got rid off…

Thanks for all the replies chaps, much appreciated…let’s see if he likes this offer…

Had my Honda conversion done about 8 years ago and still as good today as the day I picked it up. Engine has been 100% reliable.

Go for it, it will put a massive smile on your face!

Yeah the engines are reliable if looked after. The only real niggle is CV joints, the guys that have the conversions tend to do the odd one every now and then. I am sure a few of them will comment. A few gearboxes have gone pop, but that is super rare, only two that i know of on road / track cars.

Make sure the gear change is nice. I have driven quite a few and some are lovely and some are down right horrendous!! The best one I ever tried was one that our very own Marc Posselthwaite designed and built for one of his cars, his was the best by a mile.

All just my opinion, before people start sending me ‘letters’

I feel denigrated

I’m going to send you a letter…

Lol, and I’m now driving a Toyota 240 cup…

Another one to consider?
