I could not see much when i searched… Is there a v easy way when looking at a car to tell if it is a 190 or not?
Thanks.

If it stinks of unburnt fuel, and the back of the car goes black with soot, and it does about 15mpg, then its a Lotus 190 kit.
haha thanks! do you know if there is any number on the engine/ or any physical part that is easy to tell apart from the 170?
Tricky that. I think the only things you actually need to call it a 190 are the 190 ECU and the pulley with the changed angle.
I believe the ECU has a paint dot on it (or something) but is behind the passenger seat…behind the plastic fire wall trim. And the pulley is on one side of the engine. Neither therefore easy to see.

Don’t forget the 82C thermostat, Ian
Ah yes, and that might be the easiest way of telling!
Take it for a decent (road speed, sensible revs) drive and if the water temp hovers in the low, rather than high, 80s you’re probably looking at a 190.

Hold, on, hold on . . . as far as I know mine is a 172 but the temp is usually around 82-83 at sensible speeds
When mine was 177 (first 1000 miles) its temp was higher than that.
Ian
mine is a 172
sounds like you’ve been hanging around Uncle P too much and his obsession with all things Renault at the moment
Or have you had a few scoops sat outside The Old Tythe Barn at lunch (nice day for it)
Seriously though I thought the 177 ran at around 88 degs, quite possible a previous owner replaced for an 82 deg I guess.
The easiest way to identify whether it’s 190 is to remove the top cambelt cover and check the two camshaft pulleys, if they’re exactly the same it’s a 177, if the inlet cam has an additional cut, it’s a 190.
My “Suposidly” 190 runs @ 87Degrees but runs smelling rich .Has large carbon airbox too,…is this a 185 version??
