Help needed for a new (unlucky) Exige S owner !!

Hi all,

I Purchased an exige S in Jan in need of some minor fiberglass repairs.

Finally got the car on the road ( now looking mint in laser blue) and 800 miles later the engine ( bottom end ) has destroyed itself !!! Hoping someone can answer a few questions.

Is this common ? The car was being driven hard but dont think I hit the rev limiter !

Is the engine a standard Toyota 2zz, If so I should be able to locate a reconditioned one (Celica) ?

The oil cooler had been bypassed due to a leak - could this contribute to the failure, also the oil level was just above min when checked after incident ?

Finally - can any body recommend a good independent garage for servicing when the car is back on the road. I live local to Chester

Thanks

Not that common but doesnt sound like you have done yourself any favours by running it with little oil in it…

You may find the oil pump has possibly failed…

Keep us informed as and when you find out exactly what went wrong.

it doesn’t take long with no oil on the bearings for it to spin one and it be all over. Some enthusiastic cornering with a low oil level can do it.

We have a 2nd hand low mileage toyota engine on the shelf if you are after a replacement.

Sean…

They are almost identical to the Celica, a few components need to be swopped, but much easier if you can get a Lotus one, as Sean said low on oil and fast cornering might well be the end of the engine, mine is always topped up to prevent this, also was the engine over revved on down change? If yes the oil pump will probably be dead :frowning:
