Help from expeinced S2'ers

I hate these types of threads - right, after 4 trackdays the car is indicating signs of wear and tear, no problem there, I can deal with exhausts falling off and changing pads etc etc, but what I cannot deal with is vague almost untraceable problems that appear there one minute and gone the next.

I have a metallic ‘rotating’ squeak coming from my nearside front wheel.
Only really noticable at walking pace speed … so, could this be wheel bearings
The wheel rotates freely and I cannot create the noise when jacked up.

Brakes are ‘naturally’ squeaky when cold.

So is the answer just to throw it at Sinclaires/Hanger 111 and say ‘sort it’ or does the collected font of knowledge on here have any answers !

Has the brake pad hit the wear indicator?

The front pads were new 3 trackdays ago so they should be ok, but it is another thing I will check.

Does the noise change if :-

1 - You apply the brakes slightly
2 - You put some steering lock on (one way or the other)?

Sounds to me like it could just be a brake pad slightly touching ?

Could this have been caused by just ‘taking off’ the front wheels and checking/cleaning the pads/calipers ?

It’s the only thing I can think of

Also worth jacking the car up and holding the wheel in question and try to rock it top to bottom…

ie - pull/push the wheel top to bottom to try and feel for any play.

Pete

There is a “dust cover” (thin sheet of metal), which bends easily. It may well be just catching the rotor on its bottom edge

I had that, moved it better now!

Cheers guys - wheels off at the weekend

slight warp to disc causing sporadic fouling of pad?

Your just paranoid Pete… I suggest you try driving faster than walking pace in it…

Honestly theer no need to worry, you will generally know if there is a big problem. IT WILL MAKE LOTS OF NOISE!
