Help car wont start

got a 2010 exige s 240 only done 1500 miles and the car wont start . i have been driving it everyday and was driving it about an hour before. When i first started to turn the engine on it started ticking over for like a second then it went dead. Then when i have tried it since its not ticking over at all, it doesnt make a sound. All the dash lights and starter button light come on, the headlights come on, the central locking works. can anyone tell me whats wrong n how to fix it ASAP please. Thanks. John

try pressing key fob again should hear fuel pump priming

Why mess when you have a warranty?

Does the fuel pump priming sound like a humming sound? If so then yes i can hear this when turning the ignition.

yeah i know i didnt mean i wanted to actually start messing with the car (i have not got the knowledge to anyway haha), just wanted to see if it was something simple that could be done so i could travel tonight but i dont desperately need the car tonight thank god. Oh well. Will ring the garage tommorrow.

Has anyone else had this problem. If so what was the cause. Immoboliser/alarm? Battery?

I had this a few years back, it started ok the next day and then wouldnt start in the evening in the work car park, very imbarrasing on a new car, ended up on the back of an AA truck and was fixed under warranty i think it was a faulty sensor of some sort.

Very easy to drop below the minimum cranking power of the std battery - probably that

Thanks everyone. lucky the car is at my house but its still embarrasing to think an old 500 banger will probably start up first time every time but a brand new exige doesnt lol. Does anyone know if lotus will come out to fix it or will they come and pick it up somehow? or will this differ depending on the job and dealer?

Have you checked your battery connections in the boot? My car did this because the two connections were loose. If they are not tight on then the connection might not be strong enough when you fire the ignition.

Becuase the suspension is hard on these cars, the connections can work their way loose. Also when you start a car, it requires a surge of power from the battery and if the connections are not on propery, it’ll just die and not start up.

Hope this helps

Thanks C8UER. The AA man came out this morning and after about 45 min got it started (said it was a faulty push start button). Because the car would started again if i turned it off i drove it straight to the lotus garage (trying my best not to stall haha). Because i has a lot of things to do today and therefore couldnt wait for the car i left it to pick it up tommorrow (well later on today haha). Only then will i find out the true cause

God hope it is all sorted quickly for you.

cheers ade.got my car back now. turns out it was a faulty engine start button. Not happy with the service from the dealer though tbh. First of all it took them 24 hours to replace a faulty starter button which prob takes 15 mins. Also, i took it in for its run in service about 3 weeks ago and told them of a few minor parts that needed replacing on warrenty (ie replacement indicator bulb due to it condensing up). They said thats fine but i never heard from them since. So when i phone up yesterday saying my car was coming in for the starter button replaced i mentioned they might awell replace the minor parts that should have been ordered 3 weeks before. All seemed fine but when talking to the receptionist today. some of the parts hadnt been replaced. Turns out that they forgot to order them 3 weeks earlier which means i have to go out my way again and probably take time off work because of their mistake. Not happy really but at least ive got my car back. i sure did miss it

Is the dealer Grange in Preston?

I have waited 7 weeks for locking wheel nut socket, missing when i picked new car up just before yours dicko.First service could not take wheels off to sort squeeky brake problem so having to take another day off work wednesday.Told me they had it in before i went for first service grrr.

Yes 6970k the grange in preston. Seems like your not a happy customer either gp_fisher haha. not suprised, i mean how can it take so long for a locking wheel nut, surely not 7 weeks. Its especially bad that it should have been with your car when you picked it up any way.

The receptionist was trying to fob me off with some excuse saying that all the parts had been ordered 3 weeks earlier but all the parts were out of stock. i caught her out because she had already slipped up and told me earlier on in the conversation that the parts that had been replaced had been ordered the day before. I said “its funny because they were meant to have been ordered 3 weeks ago”. Thats when she admitted that whoever dealt with the ordering 3 weeks earlier hadnt done it

for some reason they said my order had been cancelled then reorderd, very strange seems as though someone not doing their job properly.

Most dealers say lotus have a good turnaround with parts about three days.
