Ok so finally got around to fitting my new Alpine stereo tonight after it sitting on the shelf for six weeks.
Anyhow it no worky
I have tested my wiring to see if something is duff there but I can’t seem to find a fault?
When the other stereo blew the front face went totally blank, however it was a flip down front one and the light at the rear to show you where to load the CD was still lit, so I know it had power.
When I fitted the new one tonight its totally dead, it’s simple plug and play so you really cant get anything wrong so I checked the wireing, as I understand it yellow is the permanent live, black is ground and red is switch live. I am guessing thats all you should need to power up the unit?
Anyway yellow to ground shows 12v DC and red to ground is dead untill you turn on the ignition then you get 12v DC.
So the question is do I need anything else power wise? Or have I yet again bought a duffer??
There is a fuse in the back but I am bothered I’ll mark it trying to get it out. My car is going back in the dealers tomorrow so I am going to take it to halfords and get them to test it on the display, if it works I’ll tell CN’s to check the car over while its in there.
It sopunds like you have the three power leads OK, have you checked the harness for any fretting, it could be that when you push the radio in you are loosing the 12v feed.
Agree that best actio is to get halfords to confirm the radio is working right first.

Ok I’m off to stand in the corner, took the car and dropped it off at CN’s this morning then headed to halfords with the headset to get it tested on their test rig.
After much testing and checking the fuse was ok we tried another headset (the same type obviously) and it was the same, totally dead.
After a short while of wondering what the hell was going on the chap spotted that on the alpine harness that is suppled there is a break in the two power leads that you have to connect yourself, doh.
The reason is that some makers swap the red and yellow over so to make sure that you have them ok you have to connect them yourself…
I left my harness all tie wrapped up to keep it neat and did not spot it, there is nothing in the instructions either. I felt a wee bit daft but as he did not spot it either I’ll let myself of this time.
Anyhow, I dont have a car to put it into so its back on the shelf
sorry i didnt get on this sooner, you are correct wid the colours, you need yellow, red and black. now the reason why the red and yellow are swapped around is vauxhall and volkwagons have their lives round the wrong way. the unit should of still powered up but cos its different way round it wouldnt of held any memory when you take key out. if your still having probs pm me, and ill talk you through best i can

I probably was not totally clear (not like me ) the Alpine harness is split and needs to be connected using the bullit connectors so that you can connect yellow to red if required. When I got it I did not really know which wires did what and as there was no mention in the instructions I just assumed it was plug and play and tidied up all the exess cables with insulation tape to prevent any catching ground.
If they sent it pre connected yellow to yellow all would of been fine but as it was split there was no power to the unit and because I was a little OTT with tape and foam to prevent rattles I did not spot it when testing, well thats my excuse and I’m sticking to it
lol glad you found out the problem tho. i see what you mean when you say split that can happen alot. if you have any other problems with audio let us know
