can anybody advise me what would be a suitable helmet for use on a trackday. i have recently bought a exige s. thanks
any will do for just track days
the more you pay the lighter they are.
Arai, Simpson, Shoei are the top makes.
you will have to try them on as all fits are not the same.
Ie Arai fits me better than a Shoei
There is a debate about whether motorcycle helmets are the best thing for trackdays. Bespoke car helmets are available but can cost more (possibly partly due to the VAT on car helmets).
Motorcycle helmets are not tested for the type of impact that would be common in a car and vice-versa.
That said I use a motorcycle helmet. Look for an ACU gold star and generally pay as much as you can afford; but as already mentioned try on as many as you can before buying as the range of fits between make and models is quite amazing. Make sure you get help in sizing it from someone who knows what they are doing. A helmet needs to be a really snug fit.
AJ Kelly in Manchester with an Exige S? That has to be Mr Adrian-Woodward Kelly! Hello and Welcome to Exiges.com . How about posting up a picture of your new toy. Can’t add much to what has been said abive about helmets, just get out on track and enjoy the car. First time out you simply will not believe what it can do in the corners in the dry, just take care to get the A048s up to temperature before giving it the full beans
I’ll give you a shout soon and see if we can meet up for a track day some time.
Mark
PS Adrian is possibly the first ever Exige owner to have gone to an Exige from, wait for it, a V12 Ferrari 456!
hello and welcome from another mancunian!
is your S, titanium or graphite? my old fellah spotted a grey one on the M60 a week or so ago.
will watch out for you!
If you have a cheap head, buy a cheap helmet…
Lotus on Track recomend the following helmet standards, BSI 6658 Type A, EC05 Euro Standard, Snell SA95 SA2000.They are RAC competition approved helmets. They may cost a little more than others but if it is needed in earnest!!
