My car’s a 240 Cup with the LSD fitted, got it in the summer after selling my 111R.
Thinking of adding Jim’s 2Bular 3" manifold, sports car and silencer, and also an induction kit. Should the engine be remapped if changing the exhuast and induction, will it run too lean?
I live about 1 mile from Oulton and will be there on 6th and 26th if anyone is attending.
Yup…I’ve got the standard Cup spec Ohlins 2 way adjustables on at the moment (38mm?) …haven’t changed the setup since i bought the car, and I think I could use a stiffer setup. Graham from plans has recommnded the 46mm Ohlins, anyone tried these against the standard cup spec ohlins?
Thanks, I wasn’t sure about the Orange colour when I bought it but I have to say I really like it now, it always stands out in photos! Got some black wheel as well as the Mag ones and it looks great with those on.
As for how it compares, I guess its down to what you are after. In terms of fun to drive they’re pretty similar, in outright performance the Cup is a lot quicker round the track. But given the price you can get a standard S2 for now I would be very tempted to go for one of those and maybe tune it up later on. There are more and more tuning kits coming out for the n/a cars, especially since they’ve been released in the states. I just wanted the fastest thing I could get. Would have loved to have bought one ofthe Lotus Cadena exiges, but its a lot of cash for something I can only use on the track.
Thanks!, really enjoyed the Donnington Day with the S2000’s. I had an S2000 as a courtesy car when someone drove over the front of my 111R last year. Have to say it was a very nice car, took it around North Wales with the missus in the sunshine…a great day driving, and the engine was just awesome, just couldn’t help revving it to the redline in every gear!
Pic below was the day the Exige arrived and the 111R was taken away (still miss my 111R was an awesome car)

Nice car!
As aready said keep your current Ohlins and changed the springs
I have the 46mm Ohlins but run 425/500 F/R I would recomend these as being a good setup
cheers Jamie
Thanks Jamie, are you the chap with the Bermani conversion?
I spoke to a chap at Lotus Sport about setups and he suggested playing with the anti-roll bar and current settings before changing the springs…so I’m going to try some changes on the 26th at Oulton and see how it feels. The car does understeer a bit but not too much, Redgate was probably the worst at Doni.
How do you find your setup on the road compared to the standard? Don’t want to make the car a handful on the road by going too stiff.
I’m thinking about adding a 2Bular exhaust. I was also thinking about some new induction, but the chap at Lotus has put me off that by saying that they’ve seen lots of S/C cars coming back to them having had particles enter the S/C due to poor filtering. The tolerances on the S/C are apparently extremely tight. He also said it took them a lot of work to achive 255bhp from the engine for the US spec Cup car and he doubted that an induction kit plus new exhaust would achive much difference if any apart from noise, and I’m not interested in mods unless they have an effect on performance. If you talk to the various tuning companies they make a lot of claims of big increases in bhp and throttle response. Its quite hard to fathom what’s worth doing and what isn’t. Any advice would be welcome.
Might leave the engine mods and concentrate on setup and better brakes…
Yes I have the Bemani
If understeer is a problem then playing with the bump settings at the front will also help (soften up 2 clicks and try that).
I had a serious problem with understeer - this was partly partly caused by the LSD I had fitted. I cam to the conclution that the spring rates that I had were wrong for my set up (I only had 50 between front and back) basically I had too stiff a spring at the front. I had backed off the ARB and played with the bump settings.
I only found oversteer by chaning the springs .
I would defianatly have a play with the ARB and bump settings - do one at a time and by small amounts. Dont bother if its wet!
From my experience I would consider a stiffer spring all round by the amount of roll you have in the pics - but first have a play with the settings.
I think its one of my favourite things is trying to get the set up just right for any give conditions/track.
As far as boosting our HP here are a few things to consider
A more efficent intercooler like the larger 255 Cup one (there is the option of the water jaket from Komo Tec)
Next up would be a slightly smaller pulley size to increase boost to 8psi (like I run) and something like the Emerald ECU so you can control the peramiters to get the best from the engine.
Larger injectors to feed the engine
You should look at 270-280 without blowing up the engine -After all Frank is running 12psi -300hp on standard internals in the US!
The problem is to get that extra 30-40hp you are looking at 2-3k. To get the extra performance you might be better looking to lower the curb weight
Say your car is around 960kgs with 240hp 250 hp per ton
You could spend 2-3k and have 960kgs with 280hp 291hp per ton
Or you could spendd 2k and cut the weight to 880kgs with 240hp 280hp per ton and improve cornering and braking
Thanks for that Jamie, I like the idea of adding more lightness to the car…how would you do it for just 2K though? The options i’ve been looking at would cost a lot more…
Here’s what I can think of to reduce the weight:
i) remove a/c, just the compressor as may want to re-fit when I sell, and the radiator doesn’t weigh much anyway (labour cost at garage)
ii) fit carbon seats (costly!)
iii) fit 2Bular exhaust
err I’m struggling now…
replace battery, remove excess trim eg gear surround and boot carpet, AC, sound deadening, replace windscreen with one of those plastic ones. Ask Graham at plans for cost vs weight reduction
