Hello!

Hi all,

just dropping a quick note to say I’ve just purchased a lovly silver Exige, all totally standard.

So be prepared for some very stupid questions Such as what does VHPD stand for?

Just had my first outing at Brands and it’s proved it was worth every penny!

TIA,
Mark

As in over 100bhp/litre from an old lightweight engine.

Welcome Lima!

I have seen you beforeat Seloc, you had an MR2, right?
Well, your entry to Lotus couldn’t have been with a better car.

I noticed you had discovered new levels of grip.
What tyres do you have? Yoko A039?

Now, time to start familiarizing with the car. Browse the archives in this site, there is lots of info.
1st tip: check your throttle bell (below dash) it may be loose.
2nd tip: do you have braided brake lines? Get them, as well as good pads at your first service.
3rd tip: get yourself booked for Oulton. We’re doing 15/Nov and 12/Dec. All details in this site.

Enjoy!

PS - question back: what does RemarkLima stand for?

I thought that was what VHPD stood for but couldn’t confirm it

Will check the bell housing. It’s on the A039’s at the mo… I was looking around at all the Exige websites last night and on here it says the standard car’s rev limit is at 7250 while I’ve seen loads of sites that say it’s at 8000! But god there’s a lot of grip!

No Braided lines (all standard) so that’d be nice, also is a braided clutch line worth it? I had them on my MR2 and they did make the brakes lovely!

And I’m already up for Oulton on the 12 of Dec

But that’s right, had the MR2 SC (well still got) and have bee on SELOC for yonks… But when you’re gonna do it you may as well do it in a silly way as possible

Finally is there’s a service book / “haynes” style manual anywhere? Can I buy one from Lotus?

Oh RemarkLima → Mark Mailer

P.S. Sorry for so many q’s… Just learning about the K engine and it’s little quirks

RemarkLima,

Welcome to the club!
8000 rpm limit is with the Lotus 190 upgrade ECU. If you are going to do track driving then braided brake hosed and better pads such as Padgid RS42 and Castrol SRF fluid are definatly reccomended mod’s. There is no point in going quickly if you can’t stop!! Clutch hose is already Braided as standard on exige.
Will See you on the 12th December at Oulton Already booked in for the track day and the curry evening afterwards!

Cheers Steve.

You can buy the manual from any Lotus dealer.
Aletrnatively you can download it here

Hello mate!

I recognise that name from SELOC too

Can I advise you to check your oil before you go on track… can be a bit expensive if you don’t

Bit of a silly question - what is the bell housing around the throttle pedal??

I have noticed that the first inch or 2 or the throttle pedal travel is essentially spring loading against something - is this correct??

She’s in with Lakeside at the mo having a B service…

Hi Mark

Glad to see you over here aswell !

Didn’t get to speak to much after lunch yesterday as spent afternoon on track - did 140+ track miles, which on Brands Indy trackday at this time of year is not a bad day out !!

How did you get on - you seemed to be grinning every time I saw you ??!!?

See you at next SELOC day …

David

TT, no, ideally as soon as you touch the pedal, the car starts moving.
In fact that’s why I mention it. Most of the cars I have seen (even if having done several trackdays) have lots of slack there.
I guess if you haven’t felt one right, you assume that’s normal.
Problem is that you don’t have all the available power if there is slack.
Go ahead, check it, if it’s loose you can tank me later for the (aprox ) 15 extra horses.

So how do I tighten it then? Is it easy (bearing in mind I am not very technically adept at all )…

TT

Yeah I had a look to and couldn’t fugure out if it’s tight or not, as soon as the peddle moves it moves the little join thing (with the ball joint on the end)… Is that right? However it does wobble from side to side

TT, Yep oil checks all the time I did read the whole Simon Scutham incident

David, I was really worried about spending so much money on what is essentially not very much car but that proved that it was worth every penny!!! It was sooooo good! I was meaning to leave a lot earlier but kept thinking “sod it, just one more session!”, glad the guy (still don’t know his name) in the green Exige could take the last couple of hours for me

Guys, there has been mention of this in other threads.
The latest one was this one.

Welcome aboard RemarkLima

have fun… i know you will

Cheers Rox, already been having far too much fun!!! What’s the best way of cleaning those seats

Further in my… er… investigations, I’ve revved to at least 7.5k rpm with no sign of a limiter. I did read someone else hadn’t found a rev limiter

RL

mines a bog standard and will pull 8000 rpm but i don’t feel any more power at that rpm so I change up around 7300-7500 ish

Yeah that’s what I’ve felt, plus I’m sure that’s a bit high really especially on a longer stroke engine… But still gonna be useful for those occassional track moments when you really don’t wanna change

Same here, mine is bog standard and the rev limiter doesn’t cut in until way past 7500rpm (to busy looking forwards to see exactly when it cuts in )

TT

PS Have got Lakeside to adjust the throttle pedal… am picking the beast up at lunch
