hello and a few teething problems with Exige S

Hi, I’ve just bought a demo Exige S and Im loving it to bits after moving from an Elise S2. Ive got a few little niggles Im trying to sort out. But it may have to go back to the dealer for them fixing.

Ive got an annoying suspension squeak from the front end. It seems to do it mostly when cold and also on full lock either left or right. (sounds like a rubber bush sort of squeak).

The roof is rattling from behind the drivers head.

The supercharger duct that runs from the roof of the car into the intercooler shroud keeps working its way loose from the enourmous hose clip that holds it in place. (in fact Ive had to re-attach it 3 times now.) It seems to work loose with the vibration of the engine.

The clutch pedal is squeaking (loudly) tried some WD40 on it, but that hasnt made any difference.

Has anyone got any tips on any of these faults.

torch it and get a superior S1 with the insurance cash

I had the same with mine, FARB bushes had become slightly mis-aligned and had dried out. Maybe happened on track…

Try spraying the arb and peddles with silicon spray not wd40, wd40 will dry things out! The intercooler pipe seems a common problem.

Welcome

where do I start

how long have you got?

its a lotus, they squeek, rattle and sometimes leak, drive it faster and you won’t notice any of the above

Welocome!

From Seloc: "After doing a few ‘failed’ walshy high speed bends, i noticed a tapping on the glass on the rear window… the jubillee clip,(large hose pipe clamp) holding the rubber ducting from the roof to the supercharger had come off. call to the dealer, suggestion to mount double sided tape under the gater and refix clips. I used duck mounting tape 2 ish which has worked very well… Might be suggestion to all s owners to do the same, save a problem… "

I Also have an s i dont think you will find that its just limited to the s all exiges Creak grone and Make noises
Just do as Maddog says

Drive faster and drown out the noise

As for the intake hose use a little silicon sealent on the clip after you vave tightened it up this will you allow you to undo it still unlike studloc

thanks for all the replies, and yes I do expect a Lotus to rattle and fall apart, its all part of the experience!

Can anyone tell me where I will find the FARB bushes, what they do, what they look like, and are they easily accessible?

My list was almost identical and either fixed by me or at first service.

Still get an occaisional squeak from front suspension when loaded up so will follow some of the suggestions above.

Roof squeak fixed by loosening rather than tightening roof mounting bolts a little.

Have only had to refit the cooling duct clip once at 40 miles in and no problem since so maybe just be very careful to align and tighten (maye not too tight either) properly.

Haven’t had the clutch squeak but as mentioned above WD40 will only make a temporary fix.

I don’t accept you have to put up with oddities because it’s a Lotus, it’s an area where they have moved on.One of the things (apart from the obvious stuff) that attracted me was how much more solidly put together it felt compared to the Elise.

I Must Admit i have done about 2000 miles now and not had any issues with my cooling duct or any pedel squeeks just the ocasional susspension noise and roof noise

Probrably will get loads of problems now i said that

Remove the front undertray, and take a look on the inside of the crash structure. The ARB is bolted to the front of the chassis, just beside the bolts for the front wishbones. Standard bushes were black, and held in place by aluminium U’s

Yep i’ve had the squeeky roof and the bloomin hose clip thingy come off, I pointed it out on the new car questionaire lotus send out and took the car back to the dealer.
Still it’s a stonkin car though

had mine a week now and i think ive got the suspension rattle too…not irritated by it , some of the other rattles i quite like the sound of.Bits of the roof lining have come unglued but easily fixed and minor things like carpet button thingys popping out.Dropped a 1 coin behind the seat and I quite like the rattle it makes when i put my foot down so sod it I’ll leave it there

Should you really have to stand for these problems - I’m sure the car cost 35K - 40K - Our problem is we all love Loti & let them get away with this sort of thing - I had a leaking roof (eventually discovered they forgot to fit the sealing rubber after 4 visits)but I still love the car so no excuses really. I’d also buy another but promise myself if anything is wrong it’s going back to dealer to get sorted & won’t take any s**t, well that’s what I’m saying for now - but then I’ll get smitten by my new purchase - what a happy sucker!

Hi first service this coming thursday and I do have the “squek” on the front drivers side, apart from that its a great great car! cant wait until its serviced 8000 here we come!

Had the roof Squeek / Hose Clip Problem noise from NS front Wheel And the radio pack up ( turned out to be a faulty speaker )
But it still makes me smile every time i get in it
I know you should not make do with these problems but to be honest i just dont care
I Fact i think im going to take it out for another spin
