Head or heart?

Been offered a great deal on an RS3! My heart says to buy it but my head says it will be a waste, what to do?
Thoughts?

Buy it!

Audi RS cars are great providing one thing…

You have big wad of dough in your back pocket for the likes of fuel, tyres, brakes and servicing. As long as you don’t cringe every time you have to dip your hand in there you will love it!!

Depreciation, depreciation and guess what ???

Given the price, it is brand new and is cheaper than every over car for sale currently, the car is well spec’d and it is below retails price for a standard car.
I always understand a certain level of depreciation and fully expect it to have some, I suppose my big concern is the fact it doesn’t seem that special, but I obviously have not driven it and can’t as it is new, I’m sure very few of us buy cars because it is the sensible thing to do…

I’m with this, the A3 is at the end of the line and will be last years model pretty quickly.
Does not matter how cheap it is it will be worth a wad less pretty quickly, add to that the fact its quite dull to look at and is over shadowed by the 1M and I dont think I would unless it was really really cheap.

I’m sick of losing loads of cash on cars - just look at some current prices for M5’s, AM V8’s, 997’s etc.

Most performance cars loose 50% of their value in 3 years

That’s partly why I got off the Ferrari rollercoaster - lost 30k on 3 cars in 2 years

I wouldn’t buy a brand new car ever again unless I had won the lottery and didn’t give a $hit about the dreaded D

If you fancy an RS3 why not look for an ex demo which you can at least drive/assess etc

This one should be a good start - plus you can practice chucking money away driving to the dealer !!!

Mid 40k now - 20K in 2-3 years - ouch :astonished:

Ade for 32k you could have an S4 avant or saloon just over a year old with 12k or so miles…like mine

OR

My mate just bought a loaded S5 V8 on a 57 with 46k on the clock for a bargain 19k

great cars and a great turn of pace. the gaffer at the garage i use has an rs4. as said apart from the 17 miles per gallon hooning about its a real weapon. parts and servicing are dear, but dont think you would be disapointed.

i always think heart first then 6 months later go to the head…

meh, its still the same damp chassis (as an A3 owner)

If you like it buy it, it’s a freakin car not a work of art so why care about depreciation as long as you can afford it buy it, if you even give a thought about it’s value after you’re done with it you can’t afford it…

It’s just transportation it ain’t no Lotus…

Well Chris, you see the issue with the one at 43k it was just too much, I had the chance of a well spec’d brand new car for 39k that was why it was worth it, I probably could have made money on it selling it on. In the end I just decided I was going to be sitting in exactly the same surroundings as my current A3 maybe with double the HP but it just was not worth it to be there, my head won the argument…

Result - more to spend on the Lotus now

and then 2k in the next 10 years - so not really bad as a long term deal

Ade, was about to cone back to this thread and say it’s pointless. The lotus is the toy, you already have your current A3 for the everyday stuff.

As you say you’re better off keeping what you have and enjoying the lts or the fun stuff.

We both know there’s not really a one car fits all solution so you are better off saving two diammetrically opposed cars, than trying to bring them closer together.

Says the man having a 240bhp hybrid turbo and remap fitted to his A3 tdi Quattro this week!
