Harness bar.

Since my Exige is no longer a race car I’m thinking of pulling out the A-Frame and fitting a harness bar so I can put the rear panel back in and tidy the interior up a little.

How much cutting of the panel is required? Does it fit in with the EliseParts harness bar? Don’t want to destroy it if it’s not going to work and it’s all a bit hard to figure out with the A-frame in place.

Hi Dave,

I’ve had this done recently, and I don’t believe the panel had to be cut at all. I could double check, but I won’t be seeing the car for a week or two so pm me if you want to discuss, I may be able to discover for certain from the guys who did the work.

The rear parnel does need a little cutting, just two inverted U shapes about 100cm deep on the left and right edges.

I’d imagine it’d need some care as the panel fit is a bit tight with the bar in place and you need the holes in the right place. I’ve got the panel off my car and at home, i’ll grab a photo for you later if no-one beats me to it.

I did mine a while back now.

Seats out

A few careful cuts and a big dollop of ‘Rive and Tear’

Several expletives later - job done!

I wouldn’t worry if you bugger up the cuts - invisible with the seats in.

Couldn’t agree more. This description is spot on!

Did mine early in the year - bitch of a job to get the cover back in once the harness bar is in place !

Cuts, bruises…lots of swearing!

Yep…pretty straight forward really . I made the cuts with a Dremel saw as it makes nice clean cuts.

Yeah, but you’re a master craftsman in the jewellery world, unlike us Northern metal bashers & whippet trainers

My dentist is called Mr Dremel. A nice German. He drills a bit, too.

I fitted an Eliseparts harness bar. As well as the small amount of cutting in the corners by the speakers, I also had to cut out part of the rear window rebate to fit the eye bolts for my harnesses. Not a problem if you go for the wrap around harnesses though.

Didn’t think Monkeys could train whippets. lol

Job done. I also found that trimming 5mm off the return on the top edge make it easier to get in with the bar in place.
