Guess my AFR

The real reason for posting is trying to work out if I can drive to the rolling road?
I’ve been running 260 Lotus ECU and 3.1 pulley, 440’s and uprated pump.
I’ve added/swapped:

tullet larger bore manifold and box = leaner
2.8 pulley = leaner still
550’s = should push me back a tad towards sensible AFRs

What do you think ? Safe to do a few miles off the second cam?

Yes, if you drive without lots of revs, tickle there , would be no problem IMHO

just tickle it along and you should be fine, I would leave it to idle and get fully warm prior to setting off this will help the ECU learn the injectors etc

Unless you’re speeding you won’t be on the second cam…

With 260 ecu and 550,s dropped in your AFR will be in the mid 10,s initially… over time it will gradually lean out till it runs out of correction. You’ll also get a mil light for rich running.
No problems driving it to get it tuned.
No problems booting it on full throttle either.
On light throttle you’ll be in closed loop and the ecu will ensure correct mixture anyhow.
If it were me though I’d stick on your old 220 ecu for the tune and flog/keep your 260?

I have the 240 ECU on the shelf. There’s a space next to it where the 260 will sit.

Come on John, Chop Chop

Ahh … You going Syvecs then??

That’s the plan, although I have a time limit on getting it sorted for Spa mid March (probably with a gearbox solution too). Hence the gentle chop chop as others enter the fray (SSC and Elise parts)and I’d like to support our own.

Does the gearbox solution involve Audi?

I canny make it goe any faster captain!! Cant do Scotty impressions on a forum!

Injectors have arrived in the country, now sitting on some customs persons desk on their very slow way to us. Looms being made.

I’m all ears.
When I originally looked at the ratios, they looked a little long. I think I could live with that.
I’m still keen to talk to Geary about the Honda box. The ratios are good, especially if a long 6th is put on.But it’s not indestructible and it’s likely to be 10y old with tens of thousands of miles on the clock.
So, I started looking at the Jubu set in my box. I know it hasn’t been (too) pushed , but at the end of the day, I just don’t like the Toyota box. I don’t think I can live with the imprecision of the change.Yes you can put the Sector 111 strengthing plate on, do the “Stan Adaptation”, new cables and a Letsla, but at the end of the day, you’re polishing a turd.
Reading between the lines, I think John has enough on his plate and an Audi box by March seems unlikely, so I’ll leave him to concentrate on the ECU. If I break my box at Spa that would be a pity but it may suit me financially to do a ‘proper’ gearbox fix in April.

We have an alternative Crown wheel and pinion gears specced and ready to order, that will bring the ratios of the audi down to where we all want them.

It probably isn’t going to happen by March, but it will happen. I will keep prodding John with a big stick!!!

Agreed, Audi gearbox by march is very unlikely!! Sorry. But am due to nip across to Hull to steal an engine from someone when they’re not looking!

At least then we can offer up both to each other and see how well it all fits in the hole.

With regard to ratios, the shortest standard Audi one we’ve come across is a little long, but we have been looking at getting a crownwheel and pinions made to sort that out.

Come on now make some power and ratios are not a problem…

My opinion on ratios is that the majority of cars that would undergo the transplant would be higher powered anyhow and the taller than standard gearing would be fine ?
