GT Testing At Silverstone
Lotus And Other Snippets

Silverstone was the setting last week for a very busy track day, but what was of interest to DSC was the Lotus Sport 2-Eleven GT4 Supersport; present at the circuit for potential customers to try out.

Its been a really good day, said Lotus Sports Russell Gibbons. Weve had several drivers trying it out and every one of them has got out with a big grin on his face. Right on cue, Glynn Geddie hopped out after his test, with the promised facial expression; Awesome, he beamed. Much better than I was expecting!

18 year old Geddie is looking to move into the GT4/Supersport class in 2009 and was being chaperoned by Aaron Scott; the GT ace today in his day job of driver coach. Glynns driven well in the Porsche Carrera Cup this year - he won the Pro-Am2 category - and has had a couple of Britcar outings with his dad, Jim, said Scott. Hes looking to move up to British GT next year and were hoping to get him out in an Aston N24 today, as well as a KTM X-Bow at Brands on Saturday.

Also driving the Lotus was Stefano DAste, who partnered Gavan Kershaw in the GT4 races supporting the Spa 24 earlier this year. The Italian WTCC driver arrived at the circuit fresh from winning the GT class of the Monza Rally in a Lotus Exige (in-car video of which can be seen here).

Dave Wilson, project leader for the car, explained why the initial production run was limited to ten cars; Once we made the decision to start producing customer cars, we knew that we would be on a tight build schedule for next season space needed to be found in the factory, etc. and weve a two-week Christmas shutdown, as well as Autosport International, to contend with. So we decided to produce ten initially, rather than overstretch ourselves. If demand exceeds that, then we can potentially find extra capacity.

The project has come on a long way since Spa and were delighted to be able to offer such a competitive car.
