Noticed this very slight grinding whilst driving, now getting worse. Seems to be coming from the wheels area and only realy noticeable upto about 40mph where engine noise and normal rattling masks it.
I can feel it through the steering wheel and accelerator peddle more than hear it. Best description I can think of is a “gritty grinding”.
I’ve span the disks and can’t feel any grinding (like I did when one of the bearings was buggered).
Any possiblilities (as I’m due to do a trackday soon and don’t want any mishaps) and how to check to make sure.
Does it sound like the front or rear? Left or right? Does it go if you brake lightly? Any change in the sound on left or right steering lock?
is there any free play in the bearings? Jack up and Grip wheeel at quarter to three and check for lateral play. Check again at six o’clock.
Calipers - jack up again and try spinning wheels in both directions - see if there is any particular point in the rotation that feels tighter - any stones stuck in somewhere?
Any damage to wheelarch liners or mudflaps if fitted?
Check full lock is not catching any part of the clam.
Steve I had some new front tyres fitted recently and was hearing strange noises from the wheel areas - turned out to be balance weights they’d attached inside wheel catching on front upright
I think it’s coming from the front, but not 100% sure.
No movement in the wheels and all suspension bits seem tight.
Brake disc does seem to catch slightly at one point when rotating the wheel.
Hole in wheel arch liner at top (which wasn’t there a couple of months ago).
Haven’t checked if wheel weights are catching as I’ve had other wheel problems today.
