A New Year’s resolution is to go to this event this year.
Anyone got any tips, hints, things to definitely do or not do?
Anyone recommend a nice hotel nearby?
Where does everyone go for the period clothes?

I just open me wardrobe door, no problem. Could do with a new cod piece, mind you
Having been taken for the first time last year by a long time enthusiast, the main tip is just to go - it’s a fabulous experience with amazing line ups on the grids and great racing.
Can’t help on hotels but for clothes most just use tweed jacket/cap or blazer/linen jacket/cravat/panama hat or similar. Tho’ if a member can get you into the paddock you need collar and tie.
Enjoy!

Fancy dress shops are a good place to start as a lot of people go in old army uniforms etc.
Can’t help with hotels though as I used to live 40 mins from Goodwood.

Too true. This is our own 83man wearing his old uniform at last year’s meeting:

Note the very impressive cat flap!
Been to the Revival but have to say that the Festival of Speed beats it hands down for me, its a ‘must go’ event for anyone that hasnt been!
Try the local Travelodges for accomodation, theyve got a 26 per night offer on at the moment, Chichester is the nearest but usually get booked up once the dates are announced…one year we had to stay at Gatwick Airport, that was the nearest available accomodation available so get booking…the tickets for Goodwood sell quick too, they limit the number of visitors to a managable number so that you can actually see everything without getting shoved, elbowed and kicked!
Good luck and enjoy it!

Thought it was a large codpiece!

Mine was a bit more green than the one shown, but broadly correct I don’t wear any sort of old uniform to Goodwood - they don’t fit any more (but hang in the wardrobe and who knows, one day I might be able to get back into them…)
Incidentally, Split Pin’s old man was in the similar game and we meet occasionally.
Goodwood is a great meeting but if you want to see true historic racing come to a VSCC meeting, TRY THE GALLERY BUTTON HERE particularly SeeRed at Donington in September.

Never a truer word - always a stunning event
Just watched 30min programme on skysports 3 entitled ‘motor racing’ … all about the Revival. Most prob will be repeated.
Have made the Revival & FOS a few times. Great range of exotica at FOS, but can’t beat the atmosphere & racing at Revival in my opinion. (Will check out VSCC honest!!)
Dress code is very varied, tweed & hats easy option but costume shops or your parents wardrobe could also help. You can also buy clothing at the event.
Paddock is well worth checking out, tie/cravat required.
Also great air dispays, many stalls & loads of memorabilia, music beer champagne…
Great day out!!
