Good luck, Uncle Mike

All the best with your “racing course” at Silverstone next week

Don’t forget to wear your baseball cap “back to front”, so that you blend in with the spotty sproggs who will undoubtedly also be on the course

I’m sure they’ll all enjoy your Uncle Pesky stories!

Have a great time mike! Bridge and Copse are great bends.

Ian

Thanks folks…

I’ll try to wear my jeans back to front, and say “like” a lot

Racing course?
You’re meaning that you’re really taking your driving seriously now Mike?

Yep…

I am spending so much on the car, most likely ending up with around 300 BHP, so it is going to be pretty lethal if I don’t upgrade the driver as well !!!

Mike

Have fun - and dont forget you need to make sure this thing stops as well as it goes

Thanks Andy - so far I know that tyre barriers can be useful, but I must get to grips with these brake thingies…

First step was the RS14s that someone kindly lent me - I think he was called Andy something

That won’t be enough mike!

You don’t want to have to brake as early as a Ferrari do you??!

Ian

I am watching what the racers have done, and will emulate one of their set-ups…

As I see it, I’ll probably have to go at least to Muts Nuts alloy bells or similar, but I’m open to suggestions as to a serious upgrade…

You can’t get MutsNuts for a few weeks. Which is sad, as I really don’t want anything else.

I think you’re going to want 4-pots up front mike, moving the front calipers to the back. That’d leave you without a handbrake but is it really still going to be a road car?? Who’d insure it??!

Ian

I’ve just become a ‘veteran’

Ian

It will be a road car on a limited mileage policy, and I have a quote that is not too bad…

I take your point on four pots, and Bernard is designing some at the moment, but I think I’ll need that handbrake…

Possibly I’ll put in a brake bias adjuster, either to reduce pressure to the rears as I need, or better to proportion pressure between F & R…

My cat has got fleas

Can you help ??

I’ve just become a ‘veteran’

You can now join Mike Stripe’s Club = VSCC (Very Sad Crazy Cases)

That has got to be a reflection of how much time you spend at this website.
Go and do some work!

Mike, with that kind of power and a heavier car, you’ll need a completely different brake setup.
Think of bigger than the Mutsnuts 295, I would go for 304mm front, 295mm rear. You’d be looking into AP’s .
Then get 4 pot AP’s front and the current AP fronts to the rear.
If you need handbrale, you’d look into a small Wilwood or similar.
Ah, and proper ducting and from-the-inside-bell cooling.

But don’t skimp on the brakes, otherwise you may need to start braking 100m earlier to avoid ending on the tyrewall.

Does this mean that you are on standard discs at the moment ? My original discs warped as soon as you thought about driving down a country lane and that was with 177bhp .

I would get hold of some 4-pots if I were you, I’m sure the MotorSport Elise setup would be man enough for the job.

If you use it on the road you need the handbrake for MOT’s… so a straight forward Motorsport Elise set-up will be no good (existing fronts moved to rear and esprit 4-pots up front, i think).

Also i looked into the brake bias thingy a while back… you will need to do this properly, with the power you will have, and that means installing a seperate master cylinder for each of front & rear rather than just putting a demon thieves restrictor valve into the current set-up… so you need to look into this a bit more prolly.

how much and who for insurance then ??

How’dya get on mike?
