Good audio in your Elise/Exige ?

I know it will sound heretic, but maybe our small sports car can have good audio too (look, somebody DID manage to put in a subwoofer, Mr Pesky [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image])At the expense of 2.2 pounds of weight and about 500 quid. http://www.elise-goes-hifi.com/Home/Installation/Installation_pics/installation_pics.html hmmmm, interesting…

[Warning - Sit down Pesky this may shock you!]IPJ managed to combine his two passions and in his Exige has/had (haven’t heard from him for a while) a very nice setup, including tweeters in the coin trays, subwoofer for passenger foot rest, etc.Ian [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif[/image]

Errr, on second thoughts, perhaps I know the answer [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/wink.gif[/image]

Has someone updated Exiger on this? He will be pleased. The flat woofer on the dashboard makes it an excellent place to put tennis racquets now.

After all the effort Lotus went to to keep the weight of your cars to a minimum. You lot should be ashamed of yourselves. ;-)Are we the only ones who took our stereo out?Christine

LOL - thanks Pesky, that was before my time

As someone who does enjoy good sound in any car - whether it’s a noisy one or not - i feel i should defend this Elise Goes Hifi kit a little. If you read their specs, you’d see that the total weight increase is about 1 kg. So please, don’t use the weight saving argument on this one - a 1 kg weight increase you’d already have after a short holiday with lots o food an beer. I have to admit though that i’d like to see some more proof of this 1kg weight increase… seems too good to be true…But you guys have to admit, they found a very nice solution for the lack of sounds in the Elise. I for one am interested and would like to hear their system.PJ

You guys are missing the real story here:If their figures are correct, you can save about 2 kilos by ditching the rear speakers! If you want some lightweight audio in your car, you could always try a personal MP3 player and headphones [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image]

But the Elise/Exige hasn’t exactly got the best acustics in the world so whats the point of having a stereo AT ALL? You would have to add carpets to improve them and that would increase weight! The Exige it’s simply too noisey to hear any stereo anyway.Only weight I would add is myself at 45 KG (hmm, perhaps if I didn’t wear earings I could reduce that…)Christine

Long time, no postings from me - there is a good reason but it’s boring…Anyway, IDG is right, I have managed to get a pretty good sounding system in my Exige. I haven’t weighed the individual components but I’m guessing I’ve added a couple of kilos - IMHO that’s acceptable.I’ve got a small Sony amplifier mounted behind the passenger seat and I’ve replaced the standard speakers with a pair of 5" MB Quarts. The matching tweeters are in the coin holders which brings the sound forward superbly. Finally there’s an 8" sub-woofer in the passenger footwell. I found a Rockford Fosgate sub that works really well in a tiny enclosure so managed not to lose any legroom.I am absolutely chuffed with the results - I can listen to music quite happily up to about 80mph or so. The sound quality is actually very good, and I’ll happily demonstrate it to anyone interested!I appreciate that it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but if reducing weight was really that much of an issue - wouldn’t we all be on the SlimFast plan???Ian [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif[/image]

I ditched my speakers yesterday. They only add up to 1 kilo between them. I seriously doubt this company’s claims of only one kilo extra weight. The standard speakers plus footrest certainly don’t add up to the 3 kilos that they claim.
