Long term lurker thinking of moving over from Caterham.
Had a wee read of the other thread re things to look for but it doesnt seem to have moved for years, so wondered if age and miles had turned up any more issues or inherent defects to look for please?
The suspension components will more than likely be pretty rusty, so have a good look at the wishbones and uprights. It isn’t really a problem as they all do it, but could be used for a bit of bartering.
Has it still got its original radiator? They have a tendency to blow the end caps off after a while, which is a clam off job, and the fastenings that hold the clam on will more than likely be rusted solid, which turns a fairly big job into a bloody nightmare.
Then usual crash damage, obviously look for that.
Gearbox is a weak link, so check the quality of the change, although a poor change is more than likely badly adjusted cables. You are listening and feeling for worn synchro’s
There are a lot and i mean a lot of garage queens out there, cars that have had a huge amount spent on them by loving owners, so hold out for one of those if you can.
