Getting adhesive pads off bodywork

My German dealer supplied my car on import plates … which were attached to the bodywork using double sided adhesive pads.

So now that I have my Swiss plates to put on … and the front in particular is about half the size of a standard German front plate … I find myself staring down the throat of having to remove two horrendously ugly horizontal strips of adhesive from the front splitter.

Does anyone have any great advice on how to get rid of these pads without ruining the paint ?

I’ve tried soaking in soapy water so far but it’s not happening. I fear a brillo pad exercise will end in tears.

Gently heat with a hair dryer, & the adhesive should soften & peel off.

Then clean up the residue with some Acetone thinners… and get ‘high’ at the same time!

Fixed that for you

Acetone needs care as it will soften paint…Like nail varnish remover … (not that I’d know about nail varnish!)

WD 40 works well and is kinder to paint.
