Simon,Simon(S) is not connected with Geary at Eliseparts, he comes up with ideas and works with Geary to put them into practise.minime - no we aren’t like that here [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif[/image]Also remember this about the Exige, you can take a total novice driver, put him/her on the track and the car will make them feel 1000 dollars because they can drive it fast and it feels safe… stick them in an Elise and after a couple of corners it will be spinning like mad and that person will never look at Lotus again. All IMHOPhil
Just a few comments…1) Simon (S) is not connected with EliseParts in any formal way. As Phil says, he helps Geary with development as do a whole load of people2) What Simon(S) doesnt know about Elises can be written on a very small postage stamp3) Sorry Mark/Christine… but the Exige isnt that different to an Elise. Bigger brakes? Nope. Wider track? Nope. (only different wider wheels). Adjustable suspension? Nope. (well, ride height only). Adjustable ARB? Well… yes, but not so much help without adjustable dampers… Love ya both really [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/wink.gif[/image]4) Phil… a lot to do with the ‘fast and safe’ feeling of an Exige is due to the geometry and the better tyres. As you know, Steves car goes like its on rails with the Exige wheels. The Exige looks hard as nails, comes with loads of goodies as standard (and as such is a ‘better’ buy than modding an Elise to the same spec). They’re both fabulous cars. Right… I’m sure I’ve sucessfully alienated myself enough now. How do you adjust the ride height? Does it effect the handling?Fed up of scraping the front on every speed bump!Cheers, DJ
Bri,Steve’s car is not exactly standard is it [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/wink.gif[/image]Anyway, his car wouldn’t handle that well if it wasn’t for the Exige wheels and tyres [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/tongue.gif[/image]
DJ,Want did you go and post a sensible question for? [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/wink.gif[/image]
It’s not standard at all Phil… but it does have similar suspension to the Exige (and rather unsurprisingly handles like one).DJ… remove the wheel and rotate the collar on the damper downwards. I think from memory a 6mm allen key is the right size to wedge in the holes on the collar. Clean the thread first and squirt a little lubricant on it. I think about 0.5 cm movement will give about 1cm ride height adjustment. Dont wind it too far though as you’ll end up with too much preload on the spring. Geary and Simon(S) are working on an adjustable damper mounting which will alleviate the preload problem.(DOH! Just realised… you may have a grub screw on the collar which you’ll need to undo first… be very careful you dont round it off) Bri[This message has been edited by bdrought (edited 12 February 2003).]
Bri, so the wider track is simply down, to the wheels being wider (not the tyres otherwise a 340R would have the same dimensions surely).Still a wider track, whatever the method. Apparantly the spring rates are different as well.Knew the brakes weren’t a different size, but they are drilled.Must be some geometry changes. When our car was standing next to Harry’s 340R in the studio the camber on the Exige looked much more extreme. Maybe it’s just ours… But we do get very even tyre wear across the tread. (Especially compared to our Elise back in Nov 2001…)Mark
Spring rates are different because the Exige is heavier. (they’re only marginally stiffer)OK, so the brakes are drilled… no big deal (and thats a whole different arguement!)I’m not slagging the Exige, just trying to say its not all that different from a tuned Elise. Bri
I agree that there is not a lot of difference between an Exige and an Elise Sport 190. The thread in question says the Elise is faster, a lot faster. That’s the part I have some heartburn with. From my limited experiance, on a short track the Elise may be faster, on a high speed track I think the Exige would be. I have asked that question a couple of times to Lotus Engineers and one told me the Exige is faster on their track than an Elise Sport 190. The other told me that they were very close and would come down to the driver… He went on to say that he prefered the Exige due to the high speed dynamics etc.I don’t know, until we see the same driver in each, stock, I guess we never will…Roy
well, to tell ya the truth, I can’t really give a toss about which of these cars is faster. this is such a childish behaviour that I didn’t want to get involved at all. like my dad has got a faster car than yours and all that… [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/shocked.gif[/image]just one intersting fact about lap times on the Hockenheim track (the small one where only the handling really counts if you know the track)Standard Exige:1.14.8Tuned Thielert Elise to 180 bhp: 1.17.7Tuned Pero Elise (with compressor)to 200 bhp: 1,17.3these times are taking always with the same driver (Horst von Saurma)for comparison:Mitsubishi Carisma GT EVO VII: 1.18.2Porsche Carrera 4: 1.16.6later,Bruno
I own an Exige and just purchased a 190 Sport. I have not spent much time in either due to this HORRIBLE weather here, but I can say this from my limited experience, it depends on the driver!!! All else is BS!!!
Next time somebody bumps into Alistar McQueen ask him. He’s a straight talking knowledgable kinda guy with no need to tow the Lotus party line any longer.Ian [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif[/image]
Exiges are cr*p and Lotus can’t make a car for sh**e…Hand grenade thrown, now to run in an opposite direction. heheheheI’ll get my coat… [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif[/image]
