Gearbox tip

This may be useful for some of you. My S2 Exige NA has always had a good gearchange. On the road it is very tidy and never baulks. On track days I used to find that third would go missing on 4-3 down shifts. This would be worse on hot days but was never bad, certainly better than the V6 I tried.

I fitted stiffer engine mounts, never expecting them to make any difference and they made no improvement. They did add some vibration at idle.

I then fitted a cooling air hose from the passenger side scoop ducting air on to the top of the cables on the gearbox. It is just a standard hose from demon Tweeks of 50ish mm diameter. Since then I have done two hot track days, result, perfect. Not a single baulk or slow shift. The gearbox is as good as my s1.

This may not work for others and my gearbox was pretty good to start with. However, I fitted the cooling early this year and have now had the chance to try it in anger.

Lol KAAZ!

Good sales pitch…not tempted!

 see you Wednesday

Might make a sensible addition over the gearbox cooler to keep a specific area cooler than normal, good find

Interesting. But I find my particular problem, 2 to 3 , will happen even on the first runs. It usually happens when 2 nd has gone to the max beans and I’ve always suspected torquing the engine over just puts the cables out of alignment a bit.

Does any of you fine people know how much gear oil the exige takes ??
