Very quickly into Exige ownership I wasn’t impressed with the gear change. I changed the gearbox oil which helped out with the slight crunch into 3rd.
After looking into it, I found play in a few areas adding up to give an imprecise change. I changed the following things and, whilst not perfect, it has improved no end.
Changed the cable ends to spherical joints
Changed the gear selector cable (cross gate seemed ok)
Machined the play out of the 2 piece cup that seats the ball at the bottom of the gear stick
Replaced the gearbox cable end as it appeared to have a metal bush missing (don’t know if it was there originally)
The last one seemed odd and maybe worth checking for others.
I bought a LETSLA- Lotus Elise/Exige Transmission Shifter Linkage Assembly. (All kits are now 2nd generation)
(2nd generation upgrades include- Stronger and larger rod end bearings. Stainless steel hardware. Steel cylinder for crossgate arm with tighter tolerances. Updated base plate. Updated bellcrank arm, angled spacer plate for cable bracket)
I’ve seen the LETSLA, but read some mixed reviews. I’m not keen on shortening the shift. Can you have the std throw with the LETSLA now? Is the angled cable bracket for this?
Wasn’t aware it came with a sleeve for the cross gate arm as I saw this as another area where play is introduced.
