Funny temperature readings

Evening people.
Just been out in the car tonight for a quick blast until it started pi$$ing down and noticed that when I accelerated hard the temp would drop from 82 down to 69 and slowly creep back up again as I slowed down. I know that with speed the temp drops but so far in my limited 1000mile experience with the car it has only moved around about 4’c when accelerating.

Does this sound ok or something too worry about?.

hunt this from the archives … its been discussed a few times but i think you will be okay…

thermostat shut and coolant at 82deg… eeverything happy, then you boot it and the stat opens allowing cool water into the engine/reach the temp sender… in this winter weather the radiator water will be colder than normal so you might expect lower than normal drops even tho 69 is quite low IMHO… are you sure your not reading it upside-down

Thanks Rox, found a post only 10 days old with all the answers I needed.

Just keep it nailed and there won’t be a problem!

I’m test driving an S2 in the morning. Just for fun you understand!

Ian

also meant to ask… does it always come back up to 82deg after a short while ?

Yeah it always returns to same temp as before, just wondering why it used to drop 4’c but now 10’c even though the outside air hasn’t become any colder over the past few weeks?.

as long as it doesn’t stay cool then you will probably be fine but it could be an indication of the thermostat on its way out ?

It happened to my car, remember Mike? 'twas bloody freezing inside

i certainly do remember - had to wear my duffelcoat… all the way from Scotland to Oulton…

Ian

Will you be posting your driving impressions on the S2,IDG?

Tim.

Will you be posting your driving impressions on the S2,IDG?

Yep, once he brings it back from the salon

Well Pesky, I did drive a completely colour coded white one! It was waiting on some red(ish) wheels and detailing, for a 911RS look.

I guess it makes more sense to start a new thread for my impressions (seeing as somebody has asked for them) than bury them in this one.

Ian

That colour scheme sounds interesting - will you post some pics as well please?

TIA

Without the details the camera just refused to take one!

I’ll ask Scott at B&C to send some when it’s finished.

It’s obviously biased towards the S1

Temp readings getting lower still, today after accelerating it dropped too 62 and slowly crept back up to 82. It seems to be taking longer and longer for the temp to climb back up again does this sound like the t/stat is on its way out?.
Reg fitting a new stat am i right in thinking that on A/C cars u cant fit a remote stat?.
Many thanks Tom.

The remote stats usually fit exact where the control valve is and thus its not possible to fit …\

I’m, looking into alternatives …

i’d say your stat is goosed…

Just had the stat replaced today all working ok now
The old stat that came out was a 88d one, which suprised me as I had ordered a 82d one on the grounds that my car is 190 spec?. I E-mailed Chris Brown at lotus a few weeks ago to check if it was upgraded and he replied that it was deffo 190 spec as there was"clear reference to it on the engine build sheet". Seems not!.

glad yougot sorted out moles1

thanks for letting us know.
