Evening people.
Just been out in the car tonight for a quick blast until it started pi$$ing down and noticed that when I accelerated hard the temp would drop from 82 down to 69 and slowly creep back up again as I slowed down. I know that with speed the temp drops but so far in my limited 1000mile experience with the car it has only moved around about 4’c when accelerating.
hunt this from the archives … its been discussed a few times but i think you will be okay…
thermostat shut and coolant at 82deg… eeverything happy, then you boot it and the stat opens allowing cool water into the engine/reach the temp sender… in this winter weather the radiator water will be colder than normal so you might expect lower than normal drops even tho 69 is quite low IMHO… are you sure your not reading it upside-down
Yeah it always returns to same temp as before, just wondering why it used to drop 4’c but now 10’c even though the outside air hasn’t become any colder over the past few weeks?.
Temp readings getting lower still, today after accelerating it dropped too 62 and slowly crept back up to 82. It seems to be taking longer and longer for the temp to climb back up again does this sound like the t/stat is on its way out?.
Reg fitting a new stat am i right in thinking that on A/C cars u cant fit a remote stat?.
Many thanks Tom.
Just had the stat replaced today all working ok now
The old stat that came out was a 88d one, which suprised me as I had ordered a 82d one on the grounds that my car is 190 spec?. I E-mailed Chris Brown at lotus a few weeks ago to check if it was upgraded and he replied that it was deffo 190 spec as there was"clear reference to it on the engine build sheet". Seems not!.
