Fuel - whose using what these days ?

Fuel - whose using what ?

I currently use V Power 99 when I can get it or BP Ultimate 97 at a push

Any evidence of which of the current high octane fuels are best for the yota engined cars ?

I read a fuel test a little while ago, done by a Motorsport company over a period of months with an M3CSL as the test mule, it looked at outright power, power drop as the fuel got older etc etc and they compared all the 99octane fuels and BP102, and the one that came top was Tesco 99 or momentum as it’s called

Yep I used Tesco 99 / Momentum and have never put anything else in the car!

Dave Walker set up my Emerald on the RR to run my S1 Exige quite close to the ignition timing limit. You could actually hear it start to ‘pink’ with load on, say 4th gear at low-ish 2-3ooo rpm.

This was worse with ‘V’ power, but I found using BP ‘ultimate’ the pinking went away! This told me there was a lot more knock resistance in this fuel and I have stuck with it ever since. (I did put a tank full of ‘V’ power in one day… I thought the car felt slower!!! (VERY subjective!))

No experience with Tesco stuff… what refinery does it come from???

I’m not a hundred percent sure but my understanding is that all petrol companies share the base product and each company will add their own addidtive pacages to make the respective fuels.
The test I spoke of earlier used both personal feel and rolling road data to back up their results

My rolling road result (standard PP car plus the TRD airbox) made 246.7BHP with Tesco Momentum

That’s good power

Should be even better after my 260 upgrade in a couple of weeks, plus my 2bular 8x22 exhaust and 2bular sports cat!!

another vote for tesco momentum here, i read the report too (the summary!!) and it got best power results. however it also has good cleaning agents and economy, i get about 20-25 miles more on a tank then normal unleaded, when using for road use only. the power doesnt seem to be greatly diffrent tbh but the cost vs extra miles almost makes it the same p per mile so i stick with it
