Fuel pump

Guys, what is the bottom line on the 240 PP cars fuel pump. I have enquired about having my 240-260 upgrade, and I am told I only require the ECU. Now all the litrature on here and seloc is a mixed bag, but there are more posts claiming you need a 260 pump for the upgade.
As far as I can attain, the fuel pump in the 240 is an uprated one?

I tend to steer towards believing the dealer on this one, but I am also confused as to why so many going from 240-260 have had a pump replaced? Is this some dealers ways of making more money, or was this the norm way back according to Lotus motorsport?

240 to 260 upgrade needs:

ECU
Larger fuel pump
Some also add trd airbox/filter as well

220 to 260

Same as above but also require larger injectors,

Had mine done over winter and the difference is very noticeable.

You don´t necessarily need a new fuel pump for the 260 upgrade. However, it will be quite close to the limit. I have the Komo-tec 270 upgrade (basically same as the 260 upgrade from Lotus) with the original 220 fuel pump.

Agree with this you don’t need it, but I would certainly recommend it, when my car went up only 10hp from 260hp the fuel pump could not supply the required pressure, it would only take the pump to be a little old and hey presto, not enough fuel at high rpm.
You can do it just understand the risks

Apparently from what I am told though, the 240 cars have the exact same pump already as the 260. If this is not the case in anyone else’s 240 cars, can you back this up, by physically seeing the pump.

I had an updated fuel pump put on when I had the 260 map done. It was only 100 quid and not worth risking fuel starvation for that sort of money.

Agree

Mine was a 240PP and it is not the same pump as the 260s. Strongly suggest the upgrade if you are getting more ponies. The injectors in the 240PP are fine for the260 upgrade.

Same with my 240PP

Mine to. The pump is not the same.

Right guys, thanks for your input. I won’t be going above the 260 map and a 2tubular rear box. I have the TRD also.

I had my 240PP converted to 260 by Lotus Sport at Hethel. The minimum requirements are

Fuel Pump
Fuel Pump Cap
ECU

Hi Tim. Yep, I have just had an email back from lotus technical, who have confirmed that the uprated pump is required, and that the pumps are different. I’ve also just looked at the parts booklet, stating same, 2 separate part numbers, one for cup, the other for the rest.

Now whether it needs it or not, is a different story.
As many have stated, the standard pump is capable up to 280-300. So if your sticking with the 260 Map, then is the extra £££ worth it. Or are lotus cashing in? As many have said, better to air on the side of caution, however, if there are plenty of cars out there with 260 upgrade on a standard pump, without issue, then it really does just come down to personal choice, and not a matter of necessity, unless your planning on going over 260?

However, what I would then question is, well if it’s not needed, why put it in the cup cars?

I think you will go with what you are happy with, but remember the pump is cheap compared with melted pistons.
I know what I would do.

Pretty much decided I will be Doing the pump. I just had to satisfy my mind that I was not throwing 500 notes down the drain, that I could have spent on something else.
Even if the slightest doubt, I’d change it. Leave nothing to chance is always my moto. Just shows you though, the amount of conflicting advice you get on matters, that could have a drastic impact.
Thanks to all who offered advice.
Need to decide now whether it’s worth sticking a new tank in also, as it would be something I’d do at some point. However, all this hangs on whether I have a job in the next short while!

Have I misunderstood but have you been quoted £500 for the pump?

CN did my 260 upgrade in 2010 and “Fuel Pump-High Flow” was £125 + vat.

I can guarantee you a standard pump will not make more than 270hp, it just does not flow enough fuel, been there done that, anyone who says it will is wrong. My car went lean from 7k rpm as soon as we reduced the size of the pulley even with the injectors at any duty cycle.

Labour is just over £400, and looking on seriously lotus the pump Is £200. The tank has to come out, right?

Yes tank out job. Was going to point you to Dave at Seriuosly for the pump but you have found it already.

You will also need the spacer ring which raises the whole feul pump assembly up by 5 mm. (the uprated pump is longer so will foul the bottom of the tank without the spacer ring)

Thanks for the heads up on the spacer.
