FUEL FILLER CAP !

For those that may be interested, i fitted a filler cap at the weekend in place of the heavy protruding Lotus one. I wanted a motorsport black version and seeing that i don’t really leave the car out at night, i also wanted a keyless version…(too fidley trying to unlock the lotus one in the cold weather)

So i purchased a twist locking flush fit black " Motorsport Styled" filler cap from good old EBAY !!

It was really easy to fit and took about 30-40mins (easy for me as i have the rear clam off as i am fetteling the pipework from my audi install)

Attached some picks below of it installed…

more pics of the audi install mate? i take it thats an oil cooler on the right there? if your still interested that motorsport roof with extended vent will be another 2 - 3 weeks mate as ive just been trying to get the front and rear clam mould finished so thats the next job.

what dimensions are the fuel cap you got and what make is it. im thinking of gettin one and that looks good. id like the same as that one. cheers

The website is called www.rpmmotorsport.co.uk and they are aero flush fit fuel filler caps. They are in black and silver and are both available in various finishes of both colours. i ordered a 2.25 inch cap and it fits perfect with mm to spare; also the filler kneck is the same diameter as the new fuel caps spout so it is simple to bridge using some sort of silicon hose/fuel pipework…

There doesn’t seem to be any on ebay currently and their website is under development at the moment, but there is a number to ring and the guy i spoke to was very helpful. He posted it the same day and i recieved it the following morning…

I heard today that RPM have gone tits up.
hope its not true as they are a good bunch down there.
They have not been answering their phones.
This sounds like me being a bit of a snake but we hold the Aero fillers/necks in stock!!

Wayne, if i’d known you had them i would have got mine from a fellow exiger…

Sorry about RPM (if its true) as they were very helpfull…

wayne what type do you do are they pretty much the same as the one pictured. is it the one you have on your car i think i remember seeing a pic of your car with a black flush fuel cap ? and how much ?

i have been trying to ring rpm all day with no answer aswell.

Yeah, I’d be interested too, Wayne

They are the same as the one you have Chris…(pegbox)
I am not sure how much they are - but I will check when I get back into work on monday.
IIRC we only have silver on the shelf but black should be in in just a few days.
The one I have on mine is a little bigger and it sits flush rather than inset …matter of taste really…I like it!

let us no how much then when you find out as i want one in black that is inset. yours looks nice tho

Seconded

Hi All…
The neck and cap (locking ) is 83.72 + vat…for silver and 88.29+ vat for satin black.
You can just drill the clam and nut/bolt through with a washer under the nut or to do it properly you could use a propper flanged nut ring which costs 9.63+ vat.
looking at the install, i think It may be an idea for us to manufacture an alloy link pipe to fit to the back of the cap to link to the rubber hose on the tank.
This would have an inlet for the tank breather and roll over valve- this would save having to muller/cut the steel filler.
I think this is worth doing properly …remember what happened to Tony Does car !!!

If you do the ally link pipe then put me down for a black one as well.

have you done the ally link pipe or is it something you planned on doing,

what happened to tony d car anyway i no it set on fire but what was the cause?

I heard he used a filler cap that came with a piece of silicon hose that replaced the standard steel pipe that goes from the back of the filler cap. This split and a pretty nasty fire very quickly followed.

Here’s mine which sits flush on the outside…
