Front Tyre width...

Was mulling over some great vid and wondered why I was really suffering with mid corner understeer at the Exiges track day… my front rims are 6.5 wide and I have R888 195/50/16.

Just wondering if the wider 205/50/16 would be help out? I have forgotten, but is this the ‘standard’ Exige front size?

Cheers. Pete

My S2 Elise understeered when I first got it. Blink Motorsport (RIP) added a stiffer ARB and did a track geo on it and I havent suffered with understeer since. I run 48s and havent tried the 888s yet, maybe they are contributing slightly ?

Pete

Standard Exige fronts are 195/50/16

If ONLY this had sorted mine! I had new Nitron NTR’s, new stiff front ARB, full GEO from Nitron… and still mid corner understeer!

Think I need to soften the ARB setting.

Whats your tyre width please?

Thread drift sorry Pete, did he (Blink) run an a red MX5?

Sounds like you have the same setup as me. I had a geo done by another company before Blink and it was really bad, understeer nightmare. I cant recall my tyre sizes but I am running OZ wheels, does that help ?

Other than that it might be tyre pressure/temp or driving style (no offence).

Yes he did Jonny. Richard did really well when he attended the races. Not sure if he is still doing it.

Also, I think Richard and Scuffers came up with the Honda idea or something. I know that once he had his car converted that Jonny at BaT and Richard spend a day or so just tuning the handling. Its the same setup he put on my car.

I have the geo setup figures at home if you want to use them.

just found a wiki on the oz wheels, they are 195/50R16

You should not need 205’s you should be able to dial out the understeer with setup changes, like weirdly soften the rear damping to allow more rear movement thus loading the front a bit more, do you trail brake? does it happen when you get on the loud pedal? There can be a lot that can make it understeer…

Yep I meet him on one of my first TD’s…

lol just had an off at Craner Curves

He talked about a Honda conversion, nice chap just too far from me.

I did my conversion with Richard… top chap

He was very helpful, honest and reasonably priced. I miss Blink because they offered awesome service and were 30 mins from my house. Top bloke, top company, ah well the good old days.

Pete try Steve Guglielmi at Daventry 01327 878 425 he seems to be able to give you almost anything you want…
I still suffer from slight understeer but it can be reduced with modified driving style…but dont ask me how!!

Clive… yes!

Steve set up my Exige and it NEVER understeered! No oversteer either! Perfectly neutral at the limit… a 4 wheel drift!

What front tyre width is on your beast?
