On the tyre front, I was wondering about tyre options that are different (and cheaper!) to the norm, there are lots of road legal track tyres out there that arent R888’s or Yokos, however no one seems keen on using them. Now I was wondering if this is because they are not available in the front size of 195 width? Quite a few tyres are available in 205/45/R16, which (with the slightly increased width) would give slightly more front end grip, which I would think would be a good thing since it would make the car slightly less understeery (which seems to be some peoples major gripe about S2 handling). Is this a no-no due to rubbing on the arches or is there another reason which I am over looking? Has anyone tried the extra width? TIA
Running more camber will cure the understeer, and also gives more arch clearance. That and the reduce diameter of the 205/45 should avoid any rubbing, but like you say don’t know anyone that is doing it just now. Think I might go up to a 235 on the rear if I changed the front to 205.
Still tempted to try the Khumo’s but the price of Toyos is probably too tempting if I decided to move from AO48s. Camskill are doing good prices on Toyo’s just now.
For an everyday drive, for not as much cash, and more miles, I am using Toyo T1-R, standard size from camskill.co.uk
Quite happy with them, they certainly take away the 048 wheel wobble at 85mph, but do feel a little vague at the front on the motorway.
I suspect they are quite sensitive to different pressures.
Have not had them on track yet.
As for sizes, if I were going to try a different size at the front, I would go down to the Elise width, which I think would make it more ‘pointy’ IMO
