Front towing eye

I need to replace mine prior to track day  .
I have a theory that the OEM and other aftermarket ones put extra “turning stress”(leverage) on the post if they are pulled at an angle to the car so ripping the post out of the clam.

If the tow thingy could pivot around the post it would reduce the turning stress and might save the post. :sunglasses: Would need some mods to the grill but a short “towing loop” could do the trick  .
:bulb: Maybe a shackle and loop would do it?

Anybody any ideas.
Pending resolution I will drive within my limits…(where have I heard that before??) :astonished:

Anybody got a spare front grill??

My S1 Exige had top be towed at Donny after the drive shaft gaiter failed. The OEM towing eye is now an oval shape but no other damage was done. They loop a hook through the eye so there is plenty of free movement and no extra turning stress on the post. I was more worried about the OEM eye coming apart when it when onto the transporter, so we had backup straps on the wishbones.

As above on the S2. Been towed a few times with an aftermarket tow eye without issue.

Well give or take a lunched engine!

Was towed from the ferry port at Rotterdam to Van Sten Engineering just by the standard front towing eye - at some crazy speeds in the rain with no electrics (wipers) by a mad dutchman on a short tow rope … no problem except the tow eye became very oval … and I still get flash backs :open_mouth:

Here we are getting on another ferry to take a short cut …

And pulled off the North Sea ferry by a tug with no finese on the throttle

Lol, great pics Andy!

So how was the heart rate during that tow Andy? Lol
