front disc grinding and now scored heavily

On way home from work noticed a nasty grinding sound under braking which worsened, by the time I got home it sounded and felt like metal on metal - the left front disc is very heavily scored on the outer circumference an inch wide. Serviced only a few weeks ago - no note about pads. Done 10000 miles.

What is the diagnosis? Pads look ok, no room for a stone of sufficient size to have got in there AFAICS.

It is totally unsafe to drive now

I would bet on grit between the pad and disc

Thats a b#mmer. I hope you can just clean it out.

I have a set of excellent discs bought by mistake for my s1. If you need them let me know

No way to tell other than taking the pads off and looking.

My bet would be in disintegrated pads, may look ok on one side but the material could be gone on the side you can’t see.

Just take the wheel and pads off and see for yourself.

Mine did exactly the same, no warning, new pads & discs!

Standard pads do do that get some Pagids on there

OK thanks for the advice lads I ll get the wheel off and take a look in a moment - spent most of the day in bed after posting, I am knackered.

But the scoring on the disk must the visible side - but the pad looks OK?

Need to get the wheels off to have a look, but my bet is probably grit or a small stone caught in the caliper somewhere. Makes a God awful noise.
