Forged Wheels

Has anyone had any experience of the benefit of fitting lighter wheels.Car is an 06 ‘S’ with the standard black spider alloys. From research i reckon the forged wheels off the later cars are quite a bit lighter, but would probably be a tad expensive from lotus. As would the team dynamics ones which seem to be as light if not lighter than the forged oem wheels - any thoughts / other options, is it a mod worth considering for track use.

From my experience you can feel the difference of the lighter wheels, I don’t think it matters which ones, that is just personnel preference

There are plenty of forged wheels options out there on the market, you don’t need to go Lotus Sport specific. Rays Engineering - Volk Racing makes some of the best forged wheels in the aftermarket world. TE37, SE37K, CE28N.

These are the more popular options. Not to mention, you can have your wheels ordered in any color, specification, offset under the sun. Probably best to find a local dealer/reseller, I’m sure there is at least one in the UK, considering the Japan Import market is big business.

Yes, I swapped my stock wheels for some black Lotus lightweight ones. They are ~12Kg lighter and you do notice a difference. I also think they look much better than the Y spider wheels.

I swapped my stock wheels & 500 for a set. I don’t think you’ll find a set for less than 1000.

I would say that upgraded brakes & suspension is more important for track than buying lightweight wheels.

6 months ago swapped standard for Team Dynamics gloss black from Hanger 111 including R888s less than 1k I think. I have Volk TE-37 in gloss black also on order at the moment with Co-ordsport. Not only are they even lighter but they look bloody excellent too Sold the standard so will pop road tyres (track wets) on the TD’s.

I think in total I’m paying 1700 including specific paint and wheel centres. I know 2-11 forged are 1800 direct from Lotus. Even though they are coming direct from Japan and I’ve been waiting (it will be) 2-3 months the service has been excellent, speak to Paul hell keep you up to date. I believe mine are coming in with a fresh batch of stock.

TE-37’S

Although the tires look giant on that pic.

Hi, what offsets did you get with those Team Dynamics wheels as I believe you can get them in different sizes. Also waht tyre sizes did you go for, as you can fit wider ones than the standard? I was going to get some with Toyo T1-Rs on them for wet days…Did you find them much lighter than the standard spiders?

Check out Hanger 111’s site, I brought my Toyo TR-1s which I later fitted to my refirbed std spiders (never used and sold to help finance the Volks) and R888’s from them, I had no need for off sets, all standard sizes. Greg did say he was getting something wider in but I’d purchase by them.

Did I find them lighter, no not really which is why I’m going for the Volks. Also Seloc TechWiki confirms Here that there really is nothing in it between Std Spiders and the TD’s although I think the TD’s look (in a retro sort of way) fricking ace!

hotlap.com do a different set of team dynamics. Theirs are forged and hence are lighter than the spiders. Depends what you are after. If you want a cheap second set of rims for some T1-Rs then the Hangar111 ones seem like the way to go. If you are after something lighter to go with trackday style rubber then I’d consider the hotlap versions, the Lotus sport split 7 spokes, the 240R wheels or the TMRs that msar are doing.

Yer, I was getting them somewhere else (not hanger111) and they spoke to TD directly and they said it was possible that 2 different front wheels would fit the s2 exige. Neither needed spacers, just that each had different offsets. So one was more inboard than the other, or looking at it a different way, one front set was wider spaced! Was thinking about the wider spaced ones to get a slight wider track, but have concerns about them rubbing the arches. I cannot remember what they were off hand, something like 30 or 25 offsets…or 25 and 20s?

Has anyone had experience of stella corse wheels sold by sector 111,is shipping straight forward. Thanks in advance for any replies
