Ford Duratec 2.3

Does anyone know if the Ford Duratec conversion is still done en who can do such a conversion ?
Will it be more expensive then the Honda and Audi conversions ?

He’s got one fitted.

Yep, He’ still got one fitted and it was making good BHP when some of the MLOC crowd got together at a rolling road session late last year.
Think he posts more on MLOC

Rumour is running rife that another option may become available in the coming year. A few people are also doing their own non-commercial conversions.

The first set of converisons by Elisepart came in much less than Honda and Audi, but essentially they were sold under cost and are discontinued. It depends on what you want from the car, but for big power (e.g. 260->300bhp) reliably and [relatively] cheaply then Audi and Honda are currently the way to go. If you want nice, torquey and cost-effective 200->250bhp then I think Duratecs are still a very good option if or when someone makes it commercially. Keeping the 5speed PG1 is often quoted as a downside but I haven’t had a problem with mine yet, although I’ve only done a single 40min race plus a trackday beyond normal road use. The wide ratios don’t seem a big problem with the broad torque from the engine. The box does whine a bit but it I’ll keep running it until I have a problem.

CAIC on Seloc is going to do a serious amount of racing with a Duratec (initially with a 2.0L and then possibly 2.3l) so we’ll see how he gets on and what problems he has. Guy at Nitron used to run a 2.3L Duratec Motorsport Elise but I think the car has now changed hands.

Basically, if you are happy to wait then I’d give it 12mths and make a decision based on whats on the market then and the budget / power level you’re after. If you want something now and/or want big power then you might as well choose between the Honda and Audi.

Personally, I’d like to see a Mazda 3 MPS install (2.3L turbo and 6spd) but this would be a big engineering exercise and probably not worth developing with the other options already available.

Cheers,

Chris

Thanks Chris, lets hope the VHPD will hold till the right conversion options are there.

Hi,
Any more news on any Duratec conversions?
Glen

Steve Williams ( http://www.swlotus.com/ ) has been pretty successful with his in the LOTRDC, so he’d be my first port of call although there is an option from Komotec in Germany too ( http://www.komo-tec.com/product_info.php/products_id/503 )

Hi,
I have been in contact with Steve and he is producing a kit very soon.
Has any one had any problems with the fit of a Duratec? Any hints and advice?
Any general info please.

One thing about Steve Williams is that he won’t sell anything that doesn’t work well and will last the distance. He ran his current installation as a test bed to see what would break. AFAIK, nothing has - he has had tremendous reliability over the entire series.

Definitely an option to think about. 270 bhp with bags of torque is not out of the question with the 2.3l.
