For Reference - ITG ITG-JC74 Airfilter notes for the S1 Exige

Happy Easter - Just for reference some notes and photos about this air filter . I its not available anymore, so appreciate its late :0)

have one and quelle suprise it wouldnt fit into the standard air box my S1 was fitted with . Shown is the standard GRP box fitted to the car , which has matching dimensions to the carbon one that I bought and fitted years ago.

As it wouldnt fit in the airbox, i didn’t bother matching it up to the throttle bodies.
Mine has the later " straight ? " type as opposed to the earlier " swan neck " throttle bodies. fitted to the Elise 190 sport. Maybe it fitted on that ?

When I had it put on the rollers at Emerald for the Emerald , I had just one " Witches Tit " filter fitted directly into the mouth of the airbox. It made 196bhp at the crank.

Photos for your ref. Hope this helps & questions please don’t hesitate

From your measurements, that looks more like a JC40 sausage filter:

Width: 142mm
Length: 379mm

Digging into the depths of my memory, the JC74 foam looks noticeably ‘squashed’ in shape.

At least one ITG filter showed reduced power on dyno tests. My comments at the time:

"I hadn’t come across dyno data on the JC74, but there was an earlier ITG filter, which was a different shape (filter element pulled down closer to #1 & #4 trumpets) which I recall having concerns expressed as it may have affected airflow into those. I believe the JC74 replaced this earlier version?

My only thought about either is the minimal volume on the ‘engine’ side and whether this could result in airflow problems if the filter isn’t clean. With the OE foam cone filter in the trunking there is at least a much greater volume inboard of the filter element through to the plenum chamber."

Dear TLC racer , Happy Easter ! thank you for your reply . Please help me understand how the ITG JC40 which is made for twin carb/ throttle bodies would be for what i have in my photograph ? ITG link for reference . “The JC40 model of ITG Air Filter is designed to suit small twin carburettor applications and some throttle body set-ups” ITG Megaflow Air Filter JC40 Sausage Type with Domed Top. Also note the JC40 has three metal tags on top of the sausage where as mine has one at nine oclock . TTFN - Dave

Hi - no problem, I’m happy to👍

The JC74 was designed for the Exige, replacing an earlier design (LKP100700) and so should fit the airbox (from what you wrote, this doesn’t as it’s too big).

The dimensions you’re showing are identical to the JC40. As the JC74 is now discontinued, I couldn’t readily find the dimensions of that to compare. Do you have those?

So, it doesn’t appear to be a JC74…alternatively the airbox you were trying to fit it into is smaller as it’s intended for the original carbon one A111E0020S?

Hope that helps.
