Any one using floor (chassis rail) mounting points for a harness on an S2? I would like to do this as alternative to using existing mounting points on seat, but there does not seem to be enough space on floor between inner seat runner and centre console. Does centre console need to be removed or am I missing something here?
Reason for wanting to mount harness on the floor is
a) Understand that floor mounting with spreader plates more secure than using seat mounting for harness
b) I would like the 3-point inertia belt to be retained along with harness, the fixed harness can be a pain on road e.g. when you need to lean forwards to see better at junctions. No space to fit both inertial belt latch and harness on inner seat mount due to clearance problems with trimmed centre console (was not a problem on my last Exige S2 with the bare plastic centre console).
Just finishing an install on mine, when done will post up config and pics.
That will be useful, look forward to seeing what you have done
cheers
I fitted floor mounted harness points to my S1 rally car using spreader plates. As you say the space is very limited. The practical solution was to fit the drivers harness eye bolt just behind the passenger seat and vice versa.
This was perfectly acceptable to the scrutineers so long as it is close to the rail resulting in minimal angles. This also means that the driver/passenger waist harness straps cross over each other but the don’t interfere. Strength wise it’s far better than attaching to a seat frame anyway.
I will be doing this mod to my new S2 project car but not for a few weeks yet as there’s other stuff to do before that.
I fitted my belts to the floor-pan using Eliseparts speader plates
Haven’t been able to get pics of the seat install but have just been sent this…

A couple more pics of the final install.
When I get back on my feet I’ll remove a seat and show the mounts for the harnesses.
