I’m no expert, but surely if the tyres weren’t there he wouldn’t have turned over and maybe even rejoined the race.

I think you might be right in this instance – as it looked like the forst set of tyres that flipped him, but if the second set of tyres weren’t there he would have had a sore one… the thing that really made me wide eyed was the amount of energy in a car that couldn’t have been going ‘that’ fast.
