What is involved in fitting Exige rear bodywork to an Elise? I’d like to fit a decent rollcage, hardtop and easily-removable rear clam to an Elise and would like it to look as close to an Exige as possible when finished. The car is an S1, any thought appreciated.
It involves selling the S1 and buying an Exige.
Thanks for the giggle
Funny $hit aside, I’m considering building a tarmac rally car to replace my Escort KitCar and really don’t understand the difference between S1 Elises and Exiges. If the brakes, suspension, engine and gearbox are going to be changed anyway, why not start with an Elise chassis? I’d need the rear bodywork to be removable as well for easy access. Could I just not build on a much cheaper Elise chassis and add Exige rear bodywork?
hi monkey man. if you had been monitoring posts on this bbs for any time you should have known you were heading into that one like a steam train
Someone took the roof off an S2 and this man was sent to see the offender clickety click click
I suppose if you are building a project from parts it might be a plan???
oops a bit late with the reply
Unfortunately, I don’t think you’ll it’s a “cheap” option to start with an elise/exige chassis & build it up, unless you can find an accident damaged car from somewhere such as Hills Clicky However, beware that chassis damage normally results in write off, & generally can’t be be repaired.
Eliseparts Clicky can supply all the parts, including the motorsport body (Exige stylee), which has a 3 part rear for easy access to the engine etc.
Good luck
Looking at Eliseparts used spares they also have a couple of chassis with sill, windscreen, rear screen and roll hoop…
Why not start there if you do want to built it from scratch?
P.S. Meant to say, there’s more than enough enthuasist knowledge out there to help with any problems you may come across
Marc is also sellng a full rear body, search the archives on here.
Bloody cheap as well.
If you want to build a race/rally car you may want to consider starting with an S2 Elise. The suspension geometry is slightly better and the standard bodywork is very light.

In theory yes but in reality propably not. The Elise front clam is slightly narrower, also the roll over section of the bodywork is different, the elise does not have the mounting points for the rear clam. Also roof and rear window section need to be from an exige to mate with bodywork.
So to do it properly you could keep doors basically. I would suggest a search for “Service Manual” where you would find a link somewhere along the line to download the s1 service manual. That will give you a very good idea of the differences in bodywork. There are a few other bits you would need as well such as mudguards, it is not as easy as just swopping clams, sit down with the parts lists for each model and work out the bits required so that you don’t get a nasty surprise when you start the fitting.
Yes if you are gonna upgrade all the bits like suspension and brakes then there is a good chance that an elise chassis will serve your purposes.
I have been keeping quiet about the chassis at Geary, it might be sold and i have been trying to get my hands on it for the last 3 weeks, so thanks alot Remarklima , just yanking your chain.
This post has taken me forever evry time i read a sentence i have swopped letters around. Dyslexics of the world untie, situation
