I’ve now ordered a Forge from Seriously Lotus (good deal too) and just wondered one thing after my extended drive today:
When I use the full rev range in 3rd up to the shift change light, then go for fourth gear, the car seems a lot less urgent - ie the speed being gained in 3rd is at a much greater rate than 4th.
Now I understand how gear ratios, wind resistance etc all work so this isn’t a numpy question
I wondered if the long rev pull in 3rd is causing excessive inlet temps, retarding the ignition right at the point where I select 4th and thus making it die a bit?
I was guessing so … Mine was the same prior to fitting …
There was a very good thread on one of the US forums explaining why the car did this , fascinating reading… I,ve since forgotton what they explained .
Not sure it matters really though as when you fit the Forge and get some air too it will hopefully be cured !
Almost to the point where it would feel like the gear change sweetspot had gone and that everything had ‘spooled down’ - which is rubbish as it’s supercharged not turbocharged.
I can’t wait to get the forge on it - I bet it will be a revelation!
Spot on !!! it felt like a late 80’s big turbo car between gearchanges …
Had me puzzled till I read the cause of it…
Irrelevent to you soon as the new intercooler will banish it.
Lets hope so, otherwise I’ll be hunting down the side pod air cups and extra cooling I think.
I’m so glad I’m back in a Lotus where development happens at home - the 911 Turbo I had before had just been engineered to within an inch of it’s life and was no fun to ‘fettle’
