Doing 105 kph in a 100 zone… that is 3mph to fast at 62 mph!
All on a HUGE empty 3 Lane toll motorway into Melbourne at 08.05 am on a Saturday morning, setting off on my 1000km drive back to Sydney!
Under every toll gantry, there is a speed camera!!!
I am now a marked man, a danger to society, reckless driving etc etc that the OZ road mentality of ‘Speed Kills’ that raises million in revenue every year and contributing nothing towards safer roads… (Rant over!)
So… what to do guys…
This is an undisclosed fine (I think it will be $250) AND 6 demerit points (12 allowed!!!)
Do I take the hit on my OZ licence, or hand over my UK licence? I think the UK route will still fine me, but wont be able to allocate 6 points to my UK licence…
Does anyone here have any suggestions or experience of a similar situation please?
UK licence all the way unless the car is rego’d in your name.
Last VIC cop that stopped mate and I joked he would be happy to be sent to the UK to collect the fine (at least he had a sense of humor). Fine never came.
The pathetic speed is worth than drug selling/taking attitude in Oz is one reason why I was happy to leave.
Pete, I think they will chase you down in UK for the fine at least.
Steve E got a ticket in Vic when he was down and the hire car company forwarded his details and he got the fine through in UK, obviously no points though …
The speed cameras are on the same overhead gantries as the smart toll reading devices… so just do 200 kph up to those, nail the brakes, 99 kph under the gantry then take off again! A well thought out road safety plan… NOT!
When I lived there for 5 years I was not a permanent resident (Sydney) and so did not have to get a local NSW licence then. Used to get pulled for speeding in my Holden V8 now & again but only got fined. Used to lover taking the mick out of the rossers who did not know the score…
Has the requirement for Oz licences changed now then or are you permanent?
