exiges.com, past, present and the future.

I have updated a thread on SELOC with the news.

Please forgive me :lolno:

Are we ready for that yet?

Ok we are!

Ready and waiting!

No riff raff obviously…

Same with Nyloc…It has all gone a little quiet recently
Please do not open up Exiges.com to become another Seloc. It is very deliberate that Nyloc is a closed forum club, and much better for it IMO.

I do feel however that Exiges.com is somewhat aloof, in that the people here largely know each other, and have had their Exiges for some time.
The banter amongst themselves is amusing to them, but not really open to new members, because they simply dont understand it.

A newbie reading the threads is likely to be reluctant to post up what will be a trivial question, point of view etc
That is illustrated by the S2 forum always being less active than the S1 forum
Playing the numbers built game, that S2 forum should be way more active than S1.

As far as the registration process goes, on Nyloc we have an additional antispam question something like:
What make of car is this forum all about

Nyloc works as a closed forum because all the members are in such a small area geographically to each other your able to physically meet up once a month, it also encompasses all models of Lotus both new and old which will draw in the local community who owns them (which is a nice thing to have),

Thats just not going to work for exiges.com as the current membership is widely scattered across the UK (and then some) and it only relates to one model of lotus made.

It’s a ‘do it or die’ situation as i see it for the forum, we either leave it as is and the ones left here start putting wagers on how many grandchildren Benja’s going to have within the next 20yrs or we look to open it up to new members easier for them so they don’t feel so alienated from the group not knowing the secret handshake.

How do you select the ones you want to come on here and the ones you want to stay away? Well until they start posting up its anyones guess…

I’m hoping the ones that do sign up are here for one reason only, and that is they share the same passion for the Exige as the current users of the forum and they will fall in with the more laid back approach to discussing things about their car, even if the only thing they have in common is that one single thing! It will never be perfect I know but id like to think the ethos of the forum will carry through with the next generation without much need for direction.

David has kindly given 4 of us access to the system to accept and approve any new user registrations onto the site - SeanB, Damon, Dave and Myself. Thats not free reign to play around with peoples posts, ban people or anything of the like as I see it, its simply to allow new members to get onboard with the minimal amount of fuss. Obviously we (thats all the current forum users now) are going to have to see how this new registration process goes in terms of drawing numbers in and the content they bring with them.

Sounds like a good solution all ways up to me.

If there is any arseing around from any members, I think there are enough sensible members to nip it in the bud before it escalates. Failing that we can set the Wrath of Sean on them!!

And I would like to open the Benja grandchildren sweepstake figure at 42

If it someone completely new to Lotus then maybe difficult. if it is (lets say) a SELOC’er then a search of their posts elsewhere could provide a clue perhaps?

Really?? Tell us more…

Then again, maybe not

Welcome back fella.

God forbid on all levels :astonished:

Yes, I realise that Gav, think you read me wrong there.
I didnt mean Exiges.com would be better to be a closed club, or Nyloc was better than Exiges, I meant Nyloc is better to be that way so as not to become another Seloc

I was just stating there is no half way house unfortunately, we either go for it or we leave it as it is now.

Lets all put the chips on our shoulders regarding other forums to the side for once, most of us have logins on other sites and are active members to a certain extent. The usual one is to knock seloc yet for the best part we are probably all are members and have posted there at somepoint in the past or still do so. Myself, im on here, nyloc, seloc, scottishelises, the lotus forums, pistonheads, lone, lotus talk, aussie elises and others. I dont post up much on anything other than here and seloc, and yes certain forums have little or no content i have any interest in but every now and again i feel im able to contribute something that i do have an interest in. I always have a choice to read or not.

But this isnt about all the other forums and how they are run, the members they have and the content they hold, its about this one and the future it holds with it members.

Aye. I did have a chip on both shoulders, but I ate them. :unamused:

Looks like we have a great working solution … . Thanks to all for making it happen

So can I post ?

Where is that BAN button!!!

Anyone without a re-packable silencer, Ohlins dampers or an Audi engine is gonna get it!!!

Was this a good idea? Sean are you even allowed scissors without supervision?

sometimes

Should we also add must have a complete and driveable car??
Come on Sean chop chop mate

It might be driveable but i doubt it will ever be complete!

I know, I know
