Met up with Andy ‘No F’ing Idea’ D yesterday at Wakefield Park, NSW for Andy’s first track day after the huge longwinded effort of finally getting his fab black Exige S1 to Oz and legally on the road!
Arrived to find Andy with a suntan in Winter… red faced with frustration as the Fuel Pump had decided to lunch itself after only 10 mins of track time!!! We farted about for a while with some side cutters and crimps trying to bypass the relays etc, but 'Boz" Boston, ex V8 Supercar driver who Andy had hired for the day from some expert tuition reckoned it was the Ethonal fuel testing that had probably covered the pump in sugar shit causing it to seize… Grrrr!
So, a burger and 3 hours later, Andy was on the back of a flatbed back to Sydney… Gutted for him after all the effort to make the day a great first Exige outing…
Yes, it was bloody cold… ONLY 13 degs in the middle of our Oz winter!!!
Looking forward to doing his again soon… new pumps installed!
Great to get together and have a good Exiges catch up however!
Serious thanks to Pete for the support when a match in the tank would have been the easy option … frigging standard Lotus pump it seems … swirl pot is getting filled by gravity I guess with full tank … no prime on the tank pump and all fuses and relays were ok … 044 sounding a little … er… strained
Oh well another lesson learnt the hard way … I was going to change to a pro alloy tank, loose the swirl pot and new teflon pipework but wanted to just drive the damn thing … which I did 200KM down to Wakefield
Can’t believe the luck you’ve had with both cars Andy, it’s a good job Pete turned up eh! I’m sure you’re about to enjoy an extended period of bullet proof reliability…
Looks like fun being out in the penal colony,… I wonder if Foxtel have got any jobs???
The last bastion of NSW tracks. Only ECR and Wakefield now. It’s by Goulburn, Mark. It’s the first place I ever went on track in Lotus actually - Elan 26R. Mega Bit of a flat track though.
Sorry to hear of your woes. I wld have been right xxxxed off driving out there, so can imagine. Parts of the highway still concrete expansion blocks - thump thump thump?
