I have the MS brake package on my Exige and am running stock Exige wheels - is this causing a problem? Should I have a spacer?
As you don’t need the spacer for the std wheels, don’t they already have the 3mm added? Therefore I’d think you’re okay.
Ian
I get it now - if I were to run the Mg wheels I wouldn’t need to add a spacer because I am running the MS brake package.
I guess your track mught be just 3mm wider as it is now.
Does the car look with a wider track now? (doubt you’d notice anyway)

what kind of problem meat ? - if the calipers don’t ouch the wheel rims when you drive then what other prob. do you envisage ?.. except you don’t have a handbrake !!
No idea - just wondering. Maybe an alignment issue?
ahhh…
well if all you did was change to MS brakes and they don’t rub on th ewheels then there will be no implication for geo… at least I can’t see why there would be…
If you start changing around with the ‘track’ etc then there will be geo issues but depending how tuned in you are to the car you might not worry about it? but then you kept orig wheels so you kept orig ‘track’ ehh ?
OK - maybe I should have thought about it for another second before I hit the “post” button!
I’ll sign up for a set of black Speedlines. Can anyone who is “chummy” with Lotus Motorsport (like Russell Gibbons), call and get to the bottom of the spacer issue? Or should I call?
me too, i’m interested in a set.
Blime these are adding up!

Seeing as David was waiting to hear on where supply would come from I’ll give the others a bit longer. Come on chaps:

(probably not MarkD any longer?)
Still, that could be about a dozen sets!

Guys,
Surely one possible implication of changing the offset (either negative or positive) is that it changes the loadings on the wheel bearings - this was a big problem in my youth when everyone was fitting wide wheels to their Escorts - wheel bearings were just falling apart under the increased load of massive offset changes . Although 3mm is hardly significant so probably not of too much importance here .
Regards
I am sorted thanks. Will be seeing Russell during the week hopefully, so will ask about the offset…
Cheers
I’d be interested in a set depending on the price. I would think there would also be a demand from the Motorsport Car owners?? I’d also need to sell a set of my stock wheels to free up some cash.
Hi All,
I have purchased what I believe to be the last set of Mags in stock at Lotus MS.
I am, however still interested in purchasing a set together with others as previously intimated, dependant on overall cost.
Equally would purchase a set of standard Exige wheels (with/without tyres) if any become available, based on cost/condition, etc.
I have had a discussion with Russell Gibbons (he has double checked with the MS suspension and handling dept) re: spacers(rears only) - These are only absolutely necessary with slicks, uprated toe-links? (will re-check this) and mainly out and out track use. Dependant on this use and slicks/speedline mags/no 3mm spacer due to extreme loadings the tyre could touch/rub on the chassis/liners, etc. All this will be different car to car based on individual driving style/track/running gear used/settings/wet/dry/etc,etc.!
Also note - std nuts do not fit, different seat profile. Correct replacements available from Lotus MS plus other sources I assume.
Hope foregoing is of some assistance to all and not too confusing. Any further input leave a post.
Tx,
Ken
Hey guys, got the word back from the Handling dept. regarding spacers (via Russell G). Looks like spacers are a precaution, and it doesn’t matter if you got MSport brakes or not:
“We used to fit these spacers if we supplied the car with speedlines fitted, but i have seen many sport elises with speedlines fitted that don’t use the spacers and it doesn’t seem to have an effect. The Dynamics of the car will not be altered by fitting or not fitting 3mm spacers, what can happen is that if you run slick tyres and the car is entering a high G corner the tyre can touch the chassis, but this is extreme cornering, on road tyres this will probably never be an issue. If you fit slicks then maybe look into fitting the spacers as a precaution, these should be available from most good wheel and race parts suppliers.”
So, from that explanation why not make it already with the 3mm extra?
Also, Ian, let’s not order 1/2 sets, I’m sure Kerry (or nobody for that matter) would like to mix).
I insist, we should order some more and keep them in a kind of Exiges.com fund.
They are bound to become scarce again…
I would say you can confirm N number of sets (15?).
After a certain date, all the unconfirmed ones would be somethting like 100 extra.
I presume that an extra 6mm of track improves the mechanical tyre grip by some 0.3% by reducing the moment of roll ???
But it will be of much more use in keeping my tie down straps from rubbing against the wheel arch edges when towing
What is everyone going to do with all their standard wheels ??
It would be fine if you all brought them to trackdays, so you could have slicks and 39s or wets, but you can’t get them inside the car
