Well guys it looks like I wont be seeing much Exige action for a while. You may have spotted the car up for sale. After a lot of deliberating I’ve just signed up for a job in Slovakia for the next 2 years. I’ll be heading out there with the family in the next few weeks. I will miss the lotus trackdays but will still keep my eye on the on-line Exiges banter.
Rather than leaving the Exige in the solitory confinement of a barn I thought it would be best to sell it, however I’m suprised at the lack of enquiries . My co-driver Gareth is delighted at this lack of sale activity and is busy clearing a space in his garage with the offer of babysitting it and exercising it regularly. I suppose if it doesn’t sell then I’ve got 2 years to save up and plan for the next level of mods!
Unbelievably I’ve got the thumbs up from ‘she who must be obeyed’ to take the car with me if it doesn’t sell!
Anyone got any ideas what’s required to register and insure a UK car in Slovakia . Maybe that’s the first business objective that I’ll give my new colleagues out there
Slovakia is in the EU so insurance shouldn’t be a huge problem. Most major insurers have partner companies across the EU so you could ask your current insurers.
It might also be worth contacting the Motor Insurers Bureau ( mib.org.uk ) to see if they have any info. Their main purpose is coordinating accident claims where two different-nationality vehicles are involved, so I’m guessing they could well have wider knowledge.
As you’re going to be there for a fixed period, it might also be possible to keep the car on UK plates, although I think the limit is normally 12 months. There’s more info on that here:
(Just thinking out loud, but if you were to go out there for just under 12 months, then come back to the UK for a time before returning, that might class as two separate periods, thus avoiding the need to re-register? That could be supported by having two 12-month contracts rather than one 24-month one…)
there are loads of French cars local to me and in london that never seem to make it home, I suggest an MOT by carrier pigeon might well be enough to proove you have been home
I should say what I mean, fraud with it and act like you have been following the rules in such a way that if the shit hits the fan you can act blond and apologise and get it sorted
