Exige S2 with added supercharger

Here is an updated status on what I have done.

  1. Removed the ECU and put back the “original” adapter as supplied by SCS.

No change

  1. Pressed the inertia switch a few times

No change

  1. Taken out the fuse for the chargecooler

I can hear the fuel pump prime, I think. Long low pitched hum.

  1. Refitted the fuse for the chargecooler

No change

  1. Eyeballed the fuses

Cannot see any that look faulty.

Suspicious are now pointing to MRFU/Immo. I have done a test using the crank sensor and it appears to be reading correctly in SXTune.

Best rule out the immo ..

Ah balks it’s not the easy thing

Not fuel either …

It’s not spark either.

It’s starting to sound like someone else’s problem :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Crank looks ok

I have returned to this with a fresh set of eyes.

I asked eldest son to crank the car. I sprayed a fair bit of carb cleaner down the neck of the TB and lo and behold it started ( eventually ) and ran.

I let it idle ( badly ) for around a minute watching it goto about 500rpm, nearly stall and then catch and bring up the revs.

I made the mistake then of trying to use the throttle and it conked out.

won’t start again now - but I haven’t used 3/4 of a tin of “startyabastard” or brake cleaner in more refined circles.

Points to a fuelling issue then really.

After throwing several hundred ideas about the issue with Duncan and Paul B , they talked me out of setting fire to the car. Knowing my luck it wouldn’t have stayed lit anyway.

I had a 46 year old moment and decided it’s now the MAP Sensor. My idle has been bouncing a little recently. I’m car won’t start properly. Got to be that.

I unplugged it and it wanted to start. Sat in the car and gave it some throttle and voila. Started up. Ran like a bag of spanner’s , but ran all the same

Turned off the car and repeated it. Runs.

Plug the MAP sensor back in and it runs even worse.

I’ll purchase a new genuine sensor..

Weirdly the ECU appears to be detecting the pressure. However it only runs when unplugged initially and then lumpy when plugged in.

New sensor ordered

Likely that if it is unplugged then the ECU will load in a default value which will kind of work, but, as it is a static value, will only work within limited parameters.

Agreed.

I have a new MAP sensor on the way to rule it out. Cheapest of the parts cannon …

3193 mBar is very, very high. What does it read with just ignition on?

That’s unplugged my good man.

Ignition on , connected 1012mbar. Which seems about right

Makes sense, is about where it needs to be.

Blocked cat? Not your fluffy overlord!

It’s a relatively new system John.

Parked car up , working.

Came to it next time , won’t start. Unless I unplug the MAP and it will start…

Waiting for the parts cannon post

The new sensor has arrived and has been fitted.

The part number has been superseded too.

0281 006 076 for reference.

Not that it has made a blind bit of difference. The car still refuses to start.

Enquiries are now ongoing for getting it booked in to SeriouslyLotus as I am not confident that if I threw a match in the tank it would light.

I don’t think it’s the pump.

It’s a PWM pump and found the options to trigger it.

I think it wiring, and specifically relating to the MFRU.

Summary of the issue :

Car wont start.
Cranks over but wont fire
Occasionally sounds like its going to fire then dies and cranks

Car starts but runs like a bag of spanners with the MAP sensor unplugged
MAP sensor has been changed. Values on both look plausible when running and engine off but ignition on

Car starts but runs like a bag of spanners with the MAP sensor unplugged and if you plug the MAP back in it runs marginally better

AFR > 21 according to the wideband and very occasional dips into high teens when running
Crank sensor is detecting the crank pulses ok
Cam input 1/2/3/4 input status are being recorded

I have enabled logging of every fault such as the P0335 and every other sensor I can find.
Nothing logged unless I start without the MAP and then it pics up MAP sensor fault ( duuur! ) and a couple of others

I have found the option for pulsing the fuel pump and it is a PWM pump. I can change the cycles and power. Its doing its pump thing.

Any 2ZZ car doesn’t have a PWM pump, it’s off or on. The regulator in the pump housing does the err, regulating.
