Undertrays off.
Wasnt there.
Stuck in an engine mount , so some judicious use of a poking device ( broom handle ) dislodged it.
I then got wedged between the nearside wheel and garage wall in one of my less fine moments. Cue 20 seconds of flailing around like fish and I went no where. Deep sigh and managed to unwedge myself.
Made mental note of that and not to do it again.
Everything is back as it was now so happy with that
I noted that my rear end was letting the side down with rusty bits, so I have ordered some rattle cans to see if I can bring it back to a former glory. If not, Ill get it painted by a pro.
I do have form with a rattle can having sprayed my wing mirror after it made a bid for freedom in a earlier post
Thereâs some nice gains to be made back there, bit of satin black and a few hours in the garden can freshen things up nicely!
Another fantastic ownership thread⌠
Looks like I have a lot of catching up to do.
I noticed on a picture that my undertray was looking a bit scabby. Nothing more than surface rust mind :
Armed with nothing more than a wire brush , 3 tins of rattle can black and a little can of lacuqer and some time on my hands over this warm weekend I went about a poverty spec refresh .
I didnt expect miracles, but its a lot better. It really needs to be media blasted and the coating re applied, but for now it will do
You can see a bit of dust on the undertray from the garage floor. Nothing more
Have you fitted that 65" TV yet?

Purchased a COVID Furloughed TV yesterday and that box is in the garage exactly like you
Had a small run out tonight to check nothing is / has fallen off the Exige. I have a slight rattle on the exhaust / undertray and a bloody annoying immobiliser / alarm red flash on the dash but its playing up ( no idea how to sort this one, it will be a google! )
Got a couple of pics.
Great pics!
The rattle could be exhaust, under tray or the rear panel. Have a tap around.
With the stiffer engine mounts, my rear panel rattles like an annoyed bee in a cigar tube.
Apparently if you loosely fit all the undertray/diffuser bolts first then torque down the big 13mm ones first before doing all the little 8mm ones it helps with rattles⌠Iâm not sure though, seems to be an utter lottery when bolting my floor back on whether it rattles or not
Other stuff to check, depending on the girth (ooooâer) of your backbox it might just be catching the heatshielding that runs up behind the number plate plinth - so when you do the 8mmâs up running along the trailing edge of the diffuser just lightly tug on the number plate to pull it towards you to get that valuable extra mm or so of clearance.
I hope this comment is taken in the spirit it was intended - but the silver on this car has really, really grown on me. There was a Silver S240 for sale quite recently and it was an absolute stunner. I think the car really pulls it off (not many performance cars do IMO) and I think it may have entered my top 3 colours on an Exige
Looks superb, especially the last pic.
Have to agree with Fonzey on the colour. I too am not a fan of silver, but the Exige S2 seems to pull it off well. Canât say the same thing for black, but I have not seen one in the flesh as yet.
Cheers guys on the kind comments about the car and thanks for the pointers on the rattle. It only really happened at higher revs but Ill try the FonzeyTip first and go from there. I think it is heatshield related with my super stiff mounts.
I have sprung an oil leak.
I noticed a small puddle of oil under the car direct under the middle of the 3 naca ducts.
I removed the undertray and spotted one of the nuts on the sump was coated in oil. There appears to be no leaks though. The rocket cover I removed and replaced is also dry. No seeps.
I drove 68mi , stopped and didnât notice any signs of oil loss. Only when I the car was in the garage.
I guess Iâll have to get the car in the air , and validate where the leak is coming from.
Could be from the head work, a collection of oil that has run down to the sump.
Iâd give it visual, wipe down and just keep an eye on it.
Did you put the two blobs of sealant/rtv on where the timing cover meets the head? Theres two slots where the rubber gasket doesnât/canât seal so Toyota used a blob of sealant to cover it.
I canât say I did. However I didnât do anything to the timing cover so Iâll have to take a good look at that
Itâs only just started as wellâŚ
Yeah I didnât word that very well, the sealant goes where the timing cover meets the head but on the face which the rocket cover gasket sits on⌠Thats still not worded very well so Iâll annotate a photo tomorrow!
Ah , I know where you mean!
Offside on the car, where the cams bolts are that I changed. I didnt put any gobbo back on ( in fact I was a bit rough and just left the existing bit on there ) however, its bone dry round the rocker cover. I ran a rag round it and I cant find a drop.
Ok yeah if itâs dry itâs unlikely to be that then!
Is it on the timing cover side of the car?
