Here is my mark 1 ( and final ) home made cage for my 620
Good effort with the battery cage. I’m shamed
Regarding the K20 yes, you’ll be able to get the power, but at the expense of reliability. Drive shaft CV joints seeming to be the main, recurring, issue.
While I never take my own advice Id suggest sticking where you are and enjoying it for a while.
If I had of seen your post earlier , I would have been down B&Q !
The k20 with supercharger really does intrigue me, but I might listen to wisdom on this as you also recommended against sequential for the road.
Looks good Andy!
More progress. While I have been here there and everywhere and on the very busy work lead up to Xmas I had my coilovers sent away to be refurbed.
Rather worryingly nitron sent the coilovers back with the front springs on the rear, and the rears on the front. 600ib on the front, 450ib on the rear. Fail.
I needed the car setting up anyhow, so I headed down to see Dan @ HPEAutomotive earlier today.
Dan swapped the springs over ( good spot )
Did some magic with heights
Did some voodoo with corner weights.
Did some magic spannering to make the 4 wheels point in the directions they are meant to
I then did some driving home and took it on a few twisties.
Oh, so that’s what a correctly setup exige feels like. It feels incredible.
Before heights. Look at it on its arse!
Clean dampers and new springs+helpers
Post heights
Corner weighted with me in the car. Look at the diagonals adding upto 50% !
For reference the weight of the car with me in it at 103kg is 1029kg,
Good update Andy, and good spot by Dan on the springs! That could have been interesting if gone unnoticed!
I have a tingle on my exhaust!
Well , the cars exhaust! I have a hangar111 signature twin exit exhaust and the right tail tip has just started to rattle. I dont think its got a slip on pipe ( has it?) that I can see but it feels / looks like the honeycomb in the exhaust tip thats rattling. Its just annoying.
I would like to go back to OEM ( I think ) for an exhaust. Which one do I want to keep it track friendly? My current H111 is quiet and I quite like the sound it makes.
My Elise had that exhaust, they’re not slip on pipes so is likely the honeycomb as you say.
I honestly think your OEM options are limited, any stage 2 won’t get you through a trackday and must used options look fairly knackered tbf. I heard of a recent dealer warranty claim on a used 2009 SC Elise and the dealer paid out for a larini replacement as the factory costs/time on OEM just didn’t work.
I’ve got a 2bular on but I could never recommend dealing with them, and the quality isn’t the god tier the internet says it is. Thought about a local custom exhaust place? It’s not a particularly complex shape/fitment. ETA: and if it’s just the honeycomb loose they could probably just tack that back in and have done with it?
Sounds like a good idea the local place. I’ll have to investigate.
The exhaust does sound great when on boost. Sounds more of a roar like a jet fighter than anything else.
I was rather happy with the H111 on my Elise, I’m considering their sports cat for my Exige.
Went to fit my new shiny pro alloy oil catch tank / separator thing and I have been sent the wrong hose lengths. Plus I am not convinced the 12.5mm will fit over one of the t/b ends!
Do the n/a 2zz throttle bodies have a different size breather recirculation internal diameter to the 2zz S/C from factory ones?
Does the cable 2zz thottle body have a different size breather recirculation internal diameter to the 2zz that is fly by wire?
Who knows? I dont.
Reason for me bringing this up is I have purchased a pro alloy breather oil catch tank thing. Supplied pipes , check , clamps check , instructions check.
Que me going outside and thinking Ill get this done in a jiffy. Except I didnt.
The supplied pipework by pro alloy all checks out. Apart from one end of my throttle body inlet is too large. I am of adequate size and no matter how much sweet talking , pushing , swearing and smearing with lubricant this 12.5mm I/D pipe was not going to slip on over the 18mm proud flange. I even considered buying it tea to see if it would reconsider.
What I have done now is returned to the house and am now starting to look if there are any sleeves, so I can sleep the 12.5mm I/D OEM ( one end ) and 12.5mm I/D pro alloy supplied pipe together. Or even have one made up ( Fonzey does you man make oil resistant non captive pipes?
I Can ask him on Friday when he comes over, it’s probably quicker/cheaper just to buy a length of something oil resistant from {insert generic motorsport shop here} (ebay).
12 into 18mm does seem like a bit of a stretch, but maybe try bathing one end in boiling water for a bit. I’ve made the impossible possible when trying to fit badly sized steering rack gaiters onto cars before by bathing them…!
I would be shocked and amazed if there was a difference between SC and NA cars, but the cable vs fbw could be viable.
Its a huge % difference. I am looking for hose joiners now ! That would be the easiest I think
A whole £2.53 …
Give it a delicious sweet!
The car is on a strictly liquid diet.
Unlike the owner
Dry January is a thing of the past for me, although now I am back on the sauce I have put the brakes on a bit
